Original: Sophie and her kennel mate Kiki came to MAESSR from a breeder/puppy mill in Missouri.
Having been starved for attention, Sophie loves all of the people she has met since she has come into foster care. She adores being on your lap and being petted and fussed over. Although she has not met any young children in her new environment, her foster mom cannot believe that Sophie would have a problem with a child considering how loving she is.
Sophie is in love with the older resident Golden and chooses to spend most of her time with her. She plays with one of the resident male Springers, too, and loves the attention he shows her. A bright young girl who listens well, Sophie has taught herself how to use the doggy door. She does need supervision outside as she does not respect fences. As long as you are watching her, she will listen to you and will not attempt to jump over a fence. When she has gotten out of her foster parent’s fence, she comes to them immediately when called. Her natural instinct for birds is what is attracting her to leave her fenced-in area.
Crate trained, Sophie behaves well when crated and enjoys riding in the car inside her crate, too. Her foster parents are working on Sophie’s housebreaking and they lavish praise on her when she responds appropriately outside as they supervise her.
Although Sophie was stressed with her first bath and haircut, she never displayed any inappropriate behavior toward her foster parents. Also, she was very good for nail trimming and for the grooming of her feet. When she came into foster care, Sophie had an ear infection, but was very cooperative about receiving her ear drops and now the infection has cleared up.
Sophie is a loving, devoted Springer who truly longs to have her very own home and person to love.
Update 03/06/09: Sophie is a joy. As previously noted, Sophie came from a breeder/puppy mill in Missouri. This Springer looks at life like each day is joy to begin and so new. Everything is a new experience for her. Her little tail will be still as she takes everything in, and then, you tell her it is OK, and she smiles at you and wags that little tail.
As her previous foster mom said, Sophie is starved for love. She is trying to make up for those four years; her new foster mom can attest to that. You certainly need to love sloppy kisses and a 42-pound Springer that thinks she is a 10-pound pup when in Sophie’s presence. She is also a Velcro pup and feels the need to follow one right into the bathroom.
Sophie is settling in well and has finished treatment for intestinal worms. Her foster mom is taking her to new places so she can experience the good things the world can offer. Sophie always makes you smile on these outings. She loves to ride in the car. She loves to stare at someone at a stop light until they smile and wave to her. Then she looks at her foster mom as if to say “See, I made them smile!” Sophie is doing well with her house manners and obedience.
Recently Sophie began to experience incontinence and has had some accidents. She is now taking medication to assist with this and will be undergoing some testing. Her foster mom asks all to think good things for Sophie and to hope the tests will diagnose what is going on. Sophie is a very special lady who loves every minute in a day!
