Original: Sophie was turned in simply because her owner could not keep her. No other reason was given. She is UTD on shots, but no hw testing is done. They couldn’t tell me much about her except that she is an outside dog, which probably means she isn’t housebroken. She is not good with cats. They’re not sure about other dogs.
Sophie has landed in her new foster home. She has done fine with the dogs she has met. She has some dominant tendencies but has been all kisses and love with her foster mom. She is terribly matted. Sophie is going to the vet this week to get the mats cut out and for heartworm testing. We’ll have more information on her soon.
UPDATE: From her foster mom:
Sophie is indeed a sweetheart. She was so matted and dirty that my husband graciously agreed to groom her. Unfortunately, we had to shave her down. But she looks so much better now, and certainly must feel better, too. She put her paws up on the grooming table, and I just lifted her up. Although she seemed lery of the noose, I held her with a lead and simply talked to her the entire time she was being clipped. She was really very good. Then we went upstairs to play ball. She loves the tennis ball I got from the national, and took turns bringing it to me and to my husband. After an hour, she finally settled down with her head on my lap and went to sleep. She did bark a fair amount the first day, but she seems to have settled in with my other dogs now. She goes to the vet tonight to check out the lump on her neck and to have a heartworm check. I will keep everyone posted. Right now, she and my other dogs are waiting not so patiently for their breakfast. She is a good eater (maybe a little too good – like me, she could stand to lose a few pounds!)
Unfortunately, Sophie is a fear biter. She is easily frightened and when she is, she will snap out at whomever is closest. She cannot be trusted and sadly, has been put to sleep.
