Despite very patient and loving fostering, Snoopy continued to find the changes in his life overwhelming. After a careful and thorough evaluation, it was determined that he would not be suitable for adoption.
Original: “Snoopy has love to give”……..what a wonderful first impression on his foster mom. At the same time, Snoopy was very overwhelmed with the move to his foster home. He was raised by an elderly couple. He had been a beloved companion and protector until a move into assisted living prompted a separation. Snoopy has some fear with new situations, so his foster family will take whatever time is needed to gain his trust before meeting cats, dogs, and children or working to expand his social skills.
Though without formal training, Snoopy knows some of his basic commands. He will “sit”, “come”, and does “down” really well. When on leash, he does pull but will become more skilled with training and practice. Snoopy has not been crate trained but will be introduced to that in his foster home. He may not be ready for obedience competition when he meets his adopting family, but he will know that simple manners such as waiting for his people to go through a door first or waiting to be invited into the car can really bring praise. Once he gets acquainted with someone new, Snoopy is very eager to please so working with him is quite rewarding.
Snoopy is in good overall health but tips the scales at his current 65 pounds. He is committed to trimming to 45-50 pounds and will bypass all but the most tempting treats of the holiday season. What Snoopy seems to like best are simple doggie pleasures, things like petting, his ball, and running on his flexi-leash. He comes with a “happy tail” and can quickly bring smiles to those around him.
