Update 11/14/04:
Snoopy has adapted to her foster home very well. She has gained confidence and is less timid than when she first arrived. Snoopy has learned to walk on a leash and is very good about not pulling. She is great to “talk” on walks and enjoys it so much.
Snoopy is housetrained but is not left out alone in her foster home. She is still rough around the edges, and to avoid any accidents, she would do best in a home where she could be crated when her family is away. She does really like her crate and prefers to nap there, even when someone is home with her.
She would do well in a home with no children or older children, as a younger child might not understand that she needs room to adjust. Her world was turned upside down when her owner passed away and she is learning to trust all over again. Once she gets to know new people, she has a lot of love and loyalty to give!
She is a shy little girl, but with devotion from the people around her, she will blossom into a loyal and spectacular springer! Snoopy would love a home with a family who would include her in their plans and just give her lots of love!
Original:
Snoopy came to MAESSR with her brother when their owner passed away. Currently, she and her brother are in the same foster home with a resident ESS, several cats, and a seven-year-old boy. She is healthy, weighs 46 pounds, and was spayed after coming to her foster home. She looks like a field-bred Springer and has a beautiful coat. Her teeth and ears are in great condition. Snoopy behaves well when having a bath or being groomed.
In her previous home, Snoopy had access to a doggie-door and the yard at all times, so she is just now being house-trained by her foster family. She is getting used to going out on a schedule. She has also become very used to her crate and it is a comfort spot for her. Snoopy stays in her crate during the day when everyone is at work. At night her crate door is left open for her to come and go as she pleases.
Snoopy has great manners and has never been destructive in the house. She never gets in the trash, counter-surfs, chews, or begs for food from the table. She will let people handle her and take food away with no signs of aggression. She is a very quiet and timid dog. She is content to lie at one’s feet, or along side on the couch, while she’s being petted. And she will keep nudging a hand if she thinks she hasn?t been petted enough!
Snoopy is slowly learning to walk on a leash. She has very little experience with a leash and was used to being in a yard with an invisible fence in her previous home. Snoopy is not aggressive to people and dogs that she knows. However, she does have a tendency to growl or bark at strangers and dogs that she does not know if they approach her. After she gets used to someone, she shows no aggression at all.
Snoopy is a very nervous and reserved springer. She will hide if a stranger tries to approach her too quickly. In her previous home, she lived with several other springers and seemed to be at the bottom of the pack order. Obedience school would be great for Snoopy because it would build her self-confidence and help to establish a strong bond between her and her new family.
