Original: Sneakers is a wonderful girl who will wiggle herself into anybody’s heart. She is a very calm young adult. She loves to sit outside and watch what is going on in the back yard at her foster home. She will sit for hours and just look around. The view from there must be a welcome contrast to the one she likely had in the eastern Pennsylvania shelter where she previously resided. She arrived there as a stray and is in good health. Spaying appears to be her only need beyond basic vetting before adoption. Lucky girl!!
Settling into a new home seems to be coming easily for Sneakers. She gets along well with the resident dogs. Her fostering family isn’t sure about cats from first hand experience, but the shelter advised that she will chase cats. It’s not known if Sneakers is crate trained, in part, because when her family is away, she has been trustworthy to leave in the house alone without crating. She doesn’t countersurf, sort through the trash can or beg for food when they are at the table. If her family is going somewhere that she can go too, she’s an eager companion and rides good in the car.
There is a little training that Sneakers still needs. Right now she pulls with all her might on a leash when being walked. She has a strong hunting instinct and goes wild when she sees a critter along the way. Her family is addressing this with frequent walks to give her one-on-one training and more experience. They are also using a shoulder harness on her, which helps a little, until she becomes more mannerly.
Sneakers also is in love with “couch time” and is very persistent about settling there. She is a little sneaky and will slip into a soft, cozy spot when no one is looking. Equally persistent are her foster parents, so Sneakers has learned to get “off” when asked.
What Sneakers would probably like the most is a human on the couch to curl up beside at the end of a busy day outdoors. She is an active gal and infatuated with nature. She is also very affectionate and will cry to be petted. Finding a family with similar interests will be at the heart of her “new beginning!”
