When Skyler’s caretaker could no longer provide for him and with no where left to go, he found himself in the local shelter. The shelter environment made him anxious and excitable, unfortunately not an unusual reaction for a springer in such a setting. The shelter staff realized this too and felt his best chance at a new life would be through rescue. They contacted MAESSR and he arrived at his foster home a few days later.
Skyler is a very sweet dog who loves to play! . When he is outside walking, he is so happy to be with his people that he ignores distractions such as squirrels, dogs, and even cats. People are his life and he shows it when his foster family comes home by jumping and barking. His foster mom would recommend an obedience class to redirect his greetings to more acceptable behavior.
When Skyler is in the house, he is very well behaved. He does not counter surf…….although he would be good at it because he has such long legs. He sleeps on a dog bed beside his foster parents’ bed. He loves to lay at his foster family’s feet during the evening. He loves to get in the car but does whine a bit on the ride before settling down.
The shelter arranged for most of Skyler’s basic vetting and once in his foster home, he was neutered. He did fine with the surgery and it hasn’t slowed him down a bit. Keeping him calm and preventing him from jumping has proven to be a challenge for his foster family. Skyler is a high energy dog that would benefit from a family who is highly active and willing to keep him moving. He is proof that a tired dog is a good dog!
Do you have enough energy for Skyler? He’s indeed a special fellow who will likely get even better in the stability of a home that knows and loves springers. He’s craving an active family who will continue what his foster family has started and should be ready to meet them as soon as the vet removes stitches in about 2 weeks. Keep watching for progress on this lively boy.
