Although it is rare for MAESSR to have puppies for placement, Skylar and her littermate Dusty came into MAESSR’s care when a Springer breeder in Maryland developed serious health problems and had to rehome his dogs. 

Skylar is a total sweetheart and super affectionate.    She has to get hugs and kisses before she’ll eat her food.  She is very protective of her brother and curious but cautious.

Miss Smarty knows “sit,” is working on “stay,” and knows “kennel up.”   She has taken to the leash pretty well, and got a lot of practice when her foster family took the pair to a store for Hallo-fun weekend!  She also is doing better each day with housetraining and sleeps in her kennel at night and when her family isn’t at home.

Note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience.  MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment.  It will require the adoptive family to take Skylar through a series of obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. 

Skylar loves the yard, digging, running out back, and just this week has discovered how to shake birds from the neighbor’s bush.  She likes the rope toys and balls her family has out and about for her.  She has also learned that she can jump up on the recliner and always does that now before going outside.  

So far, she has been a good car traveler and reportedly was sweet and affectionate during her vet visit.

Puppy, puppy, puppy—Skylar is a wonderful one and will be a cheerful addition to her new home who will be sure to share hugs and kisses with her.
