Update 08/19/11:
Great news on another of the dog days litter – Skye did well at his most recent visit to the vet. He is now microchipped and up-to-date on his vaccinations. He was also neutered and was very, very happy to see his foster mom come and pick him up at day’s end! Skye’s very happy to be home! He has an e-collar on as he was bothering his incision at the vet’s office – a short-term inconvenience to this active little guy!
Skye is a wonderful little Springer pup that is ready to sail through the beautiful blue “sky” right into your arms! Lucky will be the family that catches this one!!!!

A litter of Springer puppies usually means a celebration, but when finances are difficult, it can bring worry for a responsible owner. Skye and his littermates’ owner contacted MAESSR for help in getting these Springer pups off to a healthy, good start. So, in the dog days of summer, there is puppy breath in MAESSR-Land! Using this Dog Days of Summer theme, each of the seven puppies from this litter received a fitting summer time name.
Little Skye got his name from the beautiful blue skies of summer. He is a ten week old bundle of puppy energy who loves to explore while outside in the yard. Though a little more cautious than his brother Stormy, Skye will quickly jump into the action once he knows it is okay! Like Stormy, Skye can easily jump the 15 inch garden fence into the flowers, but this doesn’t hold much interest for him and he quickly jumps right back out on his own. Skye loves to pull on the branches of the bushes in the back yard and when he is not doing landscape work, he runs around the yard at full speed and jumping on top of his brother Stormy. Skye has met the resident dogs and respects each one’s space and, like his brother, he has “adopted” the female resident Springer as his new mommy! He likes to bark at her until she pokes him with her nose to quiet him down sometimes having to do this several times until he obeys her!
Housebreaking is going well for Skye; he mostly eliminates outside now, but will occasionally use the puppy pad when he is in the puppy pen. Feeding time is special to Skye and he will sit and watch his foster mom until his bowl is ready and then he runs to the puppy pen to eat!
Skye is a cuddler who loves to be held, snuggling into his foster mom’s neck and giving lots of puppy kisses. He likes everyone he meets and his foster mom feels he will do fine with puppy-savvy children even though he has not met any little ones yet. Skye has been to the vet and everyone just loved him there. He met a bulldog there and was a bit curious, but kept his distance even though the bulldog wanted to play.
Some new experiences Skye enjoys and some he does not. He is not overly thrilled with his baths and is ready to get out and get the towel rubdown which he prefers much more. Walking on a leash is not one of Skye’s favorite things to do. He’ll go just so far and then, he will totally stop and not move. With encouragement, he will start up again. MAESSR requires that pups under a year must attend obedience classes; this will be very beneficial to Skye, helping him to become a well-trained, adult dog. Skye has mastered the doggy door, though at first he was hesitant. Following the lead of his brother and the resident dogs, he quickly found out what fun it is to jump through! Skye has met the resident cats which held little interest to him. Good boy!
Skye will make a wonderful addition to a home with dogs, cats, and children to play with. Stay tuned for more antics of this beautiful “Skye” to cast your eyes upon!
