Original: When his family moved and could not take him with them, Skippy was turned in to a shelter in West Virginia. The family reported that he was good with children but did not state the ages of the children. They also stated that he chases cats. He is currently living with children, ages 11 and 16 years old, and does very well with them. Because he can get excited and jump up, it is recommended that he not be placed in a family with children under 8 years. There are no cats in his foster home to tease him into a chase.
Skippy loves his people and will follow his foster mom around the house. He does not like being in his crate if his people are home. He goes in easily and is happy while the family is gone but, the minute he hears someone in the garage, he starts to bark. He has been sleeping in a crate at night and is waking up around 5 AM. He does not chew, is housebroken and stays off the furniture. Skippy gets along very well with the resident 3 year old male springer………..they like to play and chase each other. He does not seem interested in chasing tennis balls but he does like to chew them and tear them apart. He also likes nylabones and other hard bones.
This youngster has had some basic obedience and knows “sit”, “paw”, and “down.” He is also an unrepentant counter surfer and beggar. He gets down when told “no” but will try to find another perch in order to see what is on the counter. He pulls a little on the leash. He also can be a bit mouthy and his foster family is trying to teach him “no mouth.” He has the cutest howl when he gets excited. He rides fine in the car.
Skippy will do wonderfully with a family that can give him some room to run and the attention he deserves. He settles nicely in the house when the family is relaxing and loves to be at your feet. He is very smart and will do well with the continuation of obedience training he obviously had in his former home. He is on the brink of adulthood with most of his puppy ways behind him and most of his very best years ahead. All Skippy needs is a forever family who will call him their own!
