Sir Charles came into MAESSR foster care via an owner relinquishment to a Virginia humane society. The only information from the original family was that they were no longer able to care for him. He has lots of freckles, a full tail, and is rather tall. He is somewhat underweight but received a clean bill of health during his vet check.
Sir Charles was called Cookie by the vet staff, but he is neither regal nor a cookie. He has been called Charlie since his arrival at his foster home, a name that suits the down-to-earth kind of guy he is. From the beginning, Charlie has felt at home. When his foster family picked him up, he jumped in the truck and settled right down for the ride home. He rides well and does not get car sick.
Arriving at his foster home Charlie was inquisitive and curious about his new surroundings. There seem to be noise experiences that Charlie has not had, and, he is cautious but not fearful. For example, when the garage door went up with the opener, he turned and went the other way, but came back when the noise stopped. He didn’t know what to think of the grandfather clock chiming, but has since ignored it.
This fellow has been perfectly content to eat, sleep, and play since his arrival. He has not jumped on furniture at all. He will check out what is going on in the kitchen, but is not a counter-surfer, and responds to the “off” command. Barking is not an issue nor have there been any signs of aggression. Charlie eats and drinks well and likes his treats. He has not had an accident in the house since his arrival. He is used to a crate, but does not care for it, and enters reluctantly, sleeping in it at night. Charlie has been alone with the trash and is not a picker. Shoes and socks are safe around him, too, as he is not a chewer.
Charlie loves to be outside, and is in constant motion while on the 30′ leash. He must have been used to running free, because running and exploring seem to be what he likes to do. At this time, he cannot be trusted to stay close by off leash. Charlie appears to have had a minimal amount of training. He sits on command and gives paw. Basic obedience is important to Charlie’s foster parents, so they are working with him on “come, down, stay, OK” and loose leash walking. He is responding well to his training time.
Having been in his foster home only a short time, Charlie has not yet been evaluated for behavior with other dogs, cats, or children, but he plays well with his foster family, wiggling and wagging his tail. Charlie is a sweetheart who loves everyone. He knows that everyone is his friend and he is very happy and content in his foster home. His one and only problem is that he is suffering from a “bad hair” day. Whoever groomed Charlie last must have been a barber school dropout. Charlie’s foster mom hopes his fur grows quickly so he can be properly groomed!
Soon Charlie, or Sir Charles, will be ready for his forever family. With his sweet personality he will surely wiggle and wag for them, regardless of what name they settle on for him!
