Sigmund, aka Siggy, was relinquished to MAESSR by a loving family in Virginia that only wanted what was best for him. He was too rough on their older dogs who were just looking for a little more peace and quiet.
In his foster home, Siggy is found to be a fun-loving puppy that loves to play hard and then snuggle after a long day. He has met children as young as three years old and was fine with them. He is all puppy, so he needs to be supervised to make sure he does not play too rough with them or steal their items. Siggy loves other dogs. He loves to roughhouse with the bigger dogs and does well when corrected about his behavior. At his point, he has not met any cats.
Siggy is still working on his housetraining but he is making progress and hopefully will be accident free in a few weeks. He is crated during the day when his foster dad is at work or leaving the house. Once the bone is picked up to be filled with cheese, he is already waiting in his crate for his treat. Siggy also is fed in his crate since he eats very quickly and some of the other resident dogs like to take their time. He is willing to tolerate the crate during the day, but at night the crate is a no go; he now has filled the place that a beloved MAESSR rescue dog occupied for the past eight years, until his recent passing.
Siggy has decent house manners and will chew on his bones and toys but on occasion he will pick up a shoe. He is easily corrected, giving up items readily. Any food Siggy can find is fair game; he is getting longer each week and has more of the counter to surf. There have been no signs of resource guarding.
Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Siggy is a smart boy and should be a star pupil!
Great on a leash, Siggy walks with his Golden Retriever brother and they get lots of pets. He also loves to go on car rides and will bark if his foster dad leaves the car…even if he’s only filling up for gas.
Siggy usually has between three and six other dogs to play with at the house on a daily basis. He is now quick to learn which ones will play with him and which ones to ignore or is necessary to give a wide berth. Smart pup! This energetic boy starts his day as though shot out of a cannon and will play until it is time for bed. If he needs a time out, he can be found in his crate sleeping.
Siggy did great at the vet; the staff all loved having him visit. He gave out some puppy kisses and that made their day.
An ideal home for Siggy would be in a home with younger dogs that like to play. An active family that is willing to take the time to train this wonderful little boy will find a friend for life.
