Original: Sierra had lived with two families before she became a MAESSR dog. When her original family was losing their home and moving into an apartment, a friend brought Sierra into her family of three young children. When a four-month-old puppy was added to the mix, there was too much going on to suit Sierra. So, she was relinquished to MAESSR with the hope that she could find a quieter living situation.
This beautiful little Springer is just a bundle of energy! Her black curls are reminiscent of a Shirley Temple-like sweetness. She is housetrained and has lovely house manners, no sneaking on the furniture for her! On the first night in her foster home, she slept quietly in a crate, but since then, she has been given full reign of the home.
When she first came into foster care, Sierra seemed a bit anxious with the two resident Springers and the other MAESSR foster dog, but her relationship with the pack is improving, especially on their morning and evening walks. Sierra does pull on the leash and likes to run, but she will respond by slowing when given a tug on her leash. Her foster parents are working on getting her to heel and walk with the pack instead of surging ahead. The neighborhood cats and squirrels have also been a real attraction to Sierra and her foster mom assumes that she would not be good with cats. As for car rides, Sierra seemed right at home in the car during her transport. No whimpering or seat jockeying for this apparent veteran of the highways.
Right now, Sierra is fed by herself to allay her anxiety around the resident dogs. When it comes to being around human food, her manners are impeccable around the dinner table or in the kitchen. Sierra has taken a real shine to her foster dad and follows him around like a shadow. When it is time for her walk, she rears up on her hind legs in excitement! She wants to be noticed, and true to her breed, just wants to give and receive affection.
More of Sierra’s personality is surfacing every day in her foster home. Her story is sure to have a happy ending with a loving, adoring forever family.
