When Sidney’s original owner in North Carolina became chronically ill, Sid temporarily stayed with a family member in Pennsylvania until MAESSR could place him in a foster home.
This lovable, happy-go-lucky Springer loves to play and cuddle. He has the unique ability to amuse himself completely by chasing (and seemingly catching) invisible objects indoors! He’s usually up for a brief play of fetch, before a shadow or a scent is more interesting to him. Since he does have some energy to burn, he might make a good jogging partner for someone in his forever family. Also, he would love the opportunity to run free in a fenced-in yard or a nearby dog park where he cold use his keen nose for tracking chipmunks. But after a good play, this cuddle-bug is ready to curl up beside his person.
Sidney has great house manners and has free roam of the house when the foster family is at work. Not a chewer or a digger and not a counter-surfer or a garbage picker, this good boy does not even beg for food at the table! He knows to stay off the furniture, too! What a gentleman! When it is time for his dinner, he sits nicely until his bowl is set down.
When his foster mom tested his affinity for a crate, he wanted nothing to do with it. At night he needs to be around his people and, therefore, the foster mom set up a bed on the floor for him next to her bed. A little shy at first, Sidney wasn’t immediately up for a belly rub from his foster mom. After a refreshing bath at the groomer’s gave him a shiny white coat, it appeared that his confidence and trust was bolstered, and he soon after rolled over for a good tummy rub. Now he has no qualms about coming up to his foster mom for a good cuddle. What a sweetheart! While he had no problems with going to the vet, he was a little skittish at the groomer.
When Sidney arrived at the foster home, he was a leash puller, but he is being trained to walk more like a gentleman by using a gentle leader attached to the leash or sometimes a harness. The foster mom is thrilled to report great progress after only a few walks! He still pulls a bit when he sees a pole or tree that he’d like to sniff and greet, though. Sidney knows sit, paw, and come, though it is not verified that he knows come on total recall; therefore, he should be leashed or in a secure, fenced-in area when off-leash. He responds with excitement in his eyes when he hears, Good boy! Being internally motivated, he responds very well to love and praise. A training treat is a bonus to this guy! He enjoys car rides, though he should be secured with a seat harness or seatbelt so he doesn’t try to drive.
Sidney loves to be loved and gives his love right back to his people. He allows strangers and kids to approach him and pet him – quite eagerly with tail wagging; so, he may not be a good watch dog for this reason! Keeping four on the floor, he hasn’t jumped up on anyone nor has he barked much. He just appreciates the opportunity to meet someone new, always aiming to please!
This beautiful, silky-furred fieldie will be a fun-loving companion to his future family.
