Original: “A good boy who is playful with his people, Shiloh loves to engage them in his favorites– tug-of-war and fetch.”
Shiloh was relinquished to MAESSR because his New Jersey owner was no longer able to give him the time, attention, and exercise she felt he deserved.
A good boy who is playful with his people, Shiloh loves to engage them in his favorites– tug-of-war and fetch. He also enjoys hiking and does well on a leash.
Housetrained but not crate trained, Shiloh knows that he is to potty outside, not in the house. He has been trained to stay off furniture, but does sleep in his people’s bed.
His former owner described Shiloh as a “vacuum dog” who will eat anything. If given the opportunity, Shiloh will steal from the trash can and counter-surf. When Shiloh grabs something he’s not supposed to have, he immediately thinks it’s a game, and will run away if his person attempts to retrieve the stolen items. His future owners may contact MAESSR’s training team for tips on how to change these behaviors.
Shiloh does not do well with other dogs and would like to be the only dog in his forever home. He is currently living with several other dogs in his foster home. He is actually scared of the other dogs and growls to try to get them to stay away. He doesn’t have much reaction at seeing another dogs at a distance; it’s only when in direct contact that he reacts. Although he has not had contact with cats at the vet or in his foster home, Shiloh would probably not be good with a cat sibling in his forever home since he has a high prey drive.
Leary of strangers. Shiloh will back up and bark if he encounters someone who is unfamiliar, but he eventually warms up at his own pace. Shiloh will jump on people he knows. Since Shiloh is anxious about new situations and new people, he has been started on an inexpensive anti-anxiety medication to help him deal better with the unfamiliar. Shiloh is not destructive; he is just concerned. Happily, the medication is helping. His new family will be required to keep him on this medication for a minimum of six months after adoption.
This smart boy knows “sit,” “lie down,” and “stay” and will “wait” for food and knows “off” for furniture. He does well on a leash and rides well in the car.
Shiloh does well at the vet and groomer, enjoying his bath and brushing. In the past he has gotten ear infections when his ears got wet. Since his ears hurt from the infection, his previous owner had to muzzle him to administer ear meds.
Shiloh is a very sweet, loving dog that will be a superstar in a home where he is the only dog.
