Updated 3/7/07: Sherlock has moved to a new foster family that has lots of time to give him the attention and training he needs to improve his canine good citizen skills. Slowly but surely, he is learning that he is not the boss. He is also learning that he has to share, and give up objects willingly. Sherlock’s foster family reports that he is making progress each day, and they will continue to work with him so he will be a well-adjusted and happy addition to his adoptive family.
Original: Sherlock, or Sherlock Holmes as he was known to his relinquishing family, came to MAESSR when his elderly owners could no longer keep him. He is a happy, healthy boy who has received excellent care and has been well-loved. A bit chubby, Sherlock needs to lose a few pounds but regular exercise should do the trick.
Sherlock loves to be outside, running around with the resident dogs as his playmates. He finds that having a two-legged foster brother is fun, too! Sherlock is reported to ignore cats although that fact has not been verified since there are no cats in his foster home. In new situations and with new people, he can be very timid and sometimes even urinates submissively. He was concerned meeting his foster mother but had no problem meeting his foster father or brother. Once he gets acquainted, he loves the human attention he gets.
He knows some basic commands, but he can be willful. Sherlock can also be mouthy at times. His foster family is working on improving these social skills. Once he is in his forever home, additional obedience training would be a good idea. Sherlock is also crate-trained and housebroken. He likes to play keep away and isn’t above stealing something to launch a good game of chase. He also doesn’t like to come inside until he is finished playing, but who does?
It doesn’t take a super sleuth to know that Sherlock Holmes would love to find his way into your heart.
