Update 01/23/2014: “This is one nice boy who would easily become a beloved member of most any family.”
Shaggy is doing great in his foster home. He continues to be a very good boy inside the house. What a polite house guest!
He recently went to the vet to be neutered and returned home with a fairly large incision, which is healing well. His foster family continues to work with him on improving his leash manners but, due to his surgery and the weather conditions, this has been difficult to do.
This is one nice boy who would easily become a beloved member of most any family. Please ask about Shaggy as he will be ready for his forever family soon!
Original: “He knows the standard ‘sit,’ ‘down,’ ‘stay’ and ‘come.’ He will also bring you his leash when he wants to walk. But when he brought foster Dad his boots, we were very impressed!”
Shaggy came to MAESSR from New Jersey after his original owner passed away suddenly and he was taken in by the owner’s sister. She clearly had no idea the energy level of a four-year-old Springer. She tried the best she could but finally contacted MAESSR.
Housetrained, Shaggy goes to the door to signal he needs to visit the outside. He is currently walked 3 to 4 times daily and knows that is the time to do his business. Completely trustworthy, he does not like nor does he need to be crated; thus, he is given full run of the house without a problem. His foster mom feels he would counter-surf if given the opportunity. He only tried one time to get on the furniture, but when told to get down, he promptly went over to his bed. Shaggy sleeps on a bed in the living and also will sleep in his foster parents’ bedroom on his bed, next to his foster dad of course!
Shaggy’s original owner did teach him commands and some very neat tricks, which his foster parents are still discovering. He knows the standard “sit,” “down,” “stay,” and “come.” He will also bring his people his leash when he wants to walk. But when he brought foster dad his boots, they were very impressed! Good boy, Shaggy!!!
Shaggy’s favorite activity is walking. He is a puller on leash, but his foster parents are working on that. He also loves to play ball and pull rope. Shaggy is very good with the elderly resident female Springer who is blind and has doggy Alzheimer’s. When she bumps or falls into him, he thinks she is trying to play and he runs to get a toy which he then drops in front of her. Very cute!
Although Shaggy prefers the passenger seat on the car rides he loves, he will take his place in the back when told. He was very nervous at the vet, but he allowed the staff to conduct the examination without a problem. The vet found that Shaggy had an ear infection, so when his meds are completed, he will be neutered.
Wouldn’t you love to spend your days with this sweet boy! Ask about Shaggy soon, because this sweetheart is sure to find his forever home quickly!
