Shadow is a sweet, little girl who is on her way into rescue. We don’t know much about her yet. She loved the volunteer who went to evaluate her. She was very happy to be out and about with people and had no interest in going back into her kennel.
She was turned in because she was “too much” to handle. This is a common complaint with young springers who have received no training. It is likely with some obedience training and exercise, she will become a great dog. She also reportedly has “accidents” in the house. To date, she has kept her inside kennel clean and has not had any instances of submissive urination. We’ll explore this issue more when she is in foster care.
Shadow has landed and she is doing well. She came through her visit to the vet with flying colors. We are only waiting on her heartworm results. She is healthy, a little overweight and a real sweetheart.
The crud under her neck is a wicked hotspot, but with a cortisone shot, antibiotics and a good bath tonight, it should clear up with time.
Shadow is doing well with the pack here. Nukta ignores her. Veto has tried to boss her around and been put his place by her. And, Jeremy finally explained to her that he was in charge. She’s crate-trained, walks on a leash well and has only had one accident in the house. She’s a great girl.
Shadow understands the concept of peeing outside, however, she doesn’t understand that she needs to ask to go out. She has had two legitimate accidents, where we didn’t catch her in time. However, she is a submissive urinator. If she gets overwhelmed, she’ll piddle for you. She should outgrow this as she ages.
Shadow met our 5-year-old nephew this weekend. She ran right over to him to kiss and love on him. She was very patient with his very physical affection.
Shadow is relaxing enough that she is starting to play. She is picking things up and bringing them to you. As well, she is playing with the other dogs.
Update:
Shadow went to her forever home where she will get to go to work with her mom every day!
