Update 02/11/11:
Selene moved to another foster home to facilitate further transport needs. She has settled in very nicely, an inquisitive bundle of energy!! Selene’s new foster mom figures that this little love bug will be scooped up soon. How does she know this? It’s quite simple; the only words she needs to describe Selene are PUPPY PERFECT!
Since her initial check-up, Selena had another visit to the vet and is now weighing a healthy 14.5 pounds, up from her 9 pound weight when found discarded in the snow. Everyone in the vet’s office was overjoyed to visit with Selene and showered her with affection. Of course, Selene took it all in stride, accommodating everyone.
This is one very smart little puppy. Housetraining is progressing very nicely as this little baby doll should wear a sign around her neck “Will Work For Food!” Her foster mom has dubbed her “little Miss Smarty Pants.” When crated, Selene will give a small whimper which signals her foster mom she needs to go outside. As soon as she is outside, she does her # 1 business and then runs to her foster mom for her treat. On occasion, she then turns around and prances off to do her #2 business and, when finished, again runs to get her treat. While outside the crate, she is learning to go to the door which signals outside which signals “treats!”
When meeting people of all shapes, ages, sizes and races, she is happy and welcoming to them all. Selene would do well in a forever home with another dog, cats and children that are puppy savvy.
Puppy Perfect!! It can’t be long before this little sweetheart becomes someone’s special valentine!
Original:
Tossed away like trash on the side of a West Virginia road in the ice and snow, Selene and her brother Titus were found huddled together for warmth. Thankfully, a nice couple took them to a shelter where they received loving care, warmth, food, and water. Shelter workers gave them their names and listed them on PetFinder. Now, Selene and her brother are settling in nicely with their MAESSR foster mom and resident dogs and cats.
Selene is a fashion diva with her new pink collar that distinguishes her from Titus. But her slighter physique, feminine fuzzy fur and curly ears do the trick, too. This sweet, gentle princess is definitely a “girl dog.” She quiets down more quickly and easily than her brother, content to climb up and snuggle in her foster mom’s lap as Titus continues to romp. But don’t let that fool you! She can be just as rowdy and rambunctious as he is and she is often the one instigating trouble. Whether she’s chewing on her brother’s ear, gnawing on her foster mom’s zipper, or wrestling a boot on her head, she knows how to get attention and entertain herself and others. Her spunk is already very apparent, too. She won’t back down when the resident, 8 month old, Great Pyrenees puppy starts getting a bit too frisky. This brave little peanut stands her ground and is not afraid to put that big puppy his place if need be! The other resident dog and cat are not as thrilled with the new arrivals and Selene is smart enough to keep her distance.
When it’s time to go for a ride in the car or to go into her crate, Selene is quite cooperative. At times when Titus is not crated with her, she may whimper a bit at first, but then, she’ll circle up and get comfortable. This smart little girl is catching on quickly to the commands “sit” and “go potty” because they’re always followed with a treat, her favorite thing in the world! After foraging on their own, she and her brother tend to scarf their food. But once she learns she’ll never have to go hungry again, this habit should subside. Potty training and mandatory obedience training will help her ace all that and gain the trust of her new family members.
Selene has been spayed and her stitches are healing nicely despite her active puppy lifestyle! Once her fleas and worms clear up, and stitches are removed, she’ll be ready to cuddle up in the safety of her loving forever home. Won’t be long now!
