With another two weeks in foster care, Seiko is proving that his foster family’s first impressions of him were right on track. He is a good boy, doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, and shows no aggression towards humans or dogs. He is starved for attention and wants lots of it. Seiko plays with the resident dog and keeps up, even if the pace gets a bit rough. His foster parents aren’t always sure which of the two dogs starts the rough play but are always there to “pull the plug” if necessary. He takes on tennis balls and stuffed toys with full enthusiasm and has destroyed most that he has played with. Seiko plays outside with balls, too, but hasn’t got the concept yet of bringing the balls to his people. For now, he prances around, proud of his possession and enjoys “keep away.”
Seiko is not quite housetrained yet but he is making good progress. He has a few other training issues that his family is working on with him. Seiko will counter surf, jumps on people in his enthusiasm to get their attention and also pinches sometimes when he gives kisses. He has learned some basics already and will “sit,” “down,” knows “no”, and respects the no-no can. The rocks inside the no-no can make a lot of noise that he doesn’t like and his foster parents find that he will listen right away when he sees it. One little shake and he is off people or furniture. His vetting will be finished soon and Seiko will be ready for an adopting family to take over where his foster family will leave off. They know he will make a very good companion in his forever home.
Original:
Having been purchased and used for breeding purposes only, Seiko had lived outdoors on a chain in western Pennsylvania and had never seen a vet. When his owners were no longer able to care for him, he was relinquished to MAESSR and moved to a foster home. His foster mom gave him what might be his first haircut, removing many, many tight mats. A few bare spots showed up, possibly the result of flea activity. The trimming also revealed an underweight condition, but that probably won’t last long in his foster parent’s care.
Seiko is fitting into their home fine. He marked a couple of times in the house the first night but is already doing better. He has started to run with a younger resident male dog and will play ball a little.
Affection from humans is not lost on this dog and is what Seiko really is wanting. His foster dad was under his car, changing oil with his hands full. This did not deter Seiko. Seiko had to “slobber” in his ear and give kisses to the point that the job had to be set aside for petting of the dog and ear drying!!
Updates will be added as Seiko’s health information comes in and as his family gets to know him better. For now, they are confident he will make a wonderful pet for someone.
