Update 1/5/04:
Scout has been adopted!
Original:
Scout was found by a nice family when he was about 6-9 months old. The family tried to find his owners to no avail but could not and contacted MAESSR about a year ago, but decided they loved this boy so much they would keep him themselves. Recently, the four-year-old girl in the home tested with extreme allergies to dogs and was hospitalized with pneumonia. The doctors said Scout and his canine brother must go. The family was devastated, but they clearly had no option. MAESSR came to the rescue, and Scout is now in a foster home. Scout’s mom described him to MAESSR as the perfect dog and his foster dad sees little to cause him to disagree.
The following is the report from his previous family: Scout loved to hunt with his dad and is quite good at it. Scout will growl a little when he first meets someone but has never bitten and is good with other dogs and great with the 4-year-old. He does like to chase cats as a game but is not aggressive to them. He loves to ride in the car and knows sit, stay, come, down and roll over. He is great at the groomer. They all love him. His mom has to close the door to the bathroom or he will jump in the shower with her. He loves to be brushed and is good for ear cleaning and nail trims. Scout is used to a Gentle Leader and does great with that but will pull on a regular leash. He is good off leash and will come when called. He is only protective of food with other dogs and will let people take food or bones away from him without a fuss. He is described as moderately active and settles nicely in the house. He is crate-trained and house-trained. He barks to go out and when people come to the door.
Scout loves to play ball and will bring it back every time. He does have a sensitive stomach and has done very well on Pedigree. Iams and Eukanuba were too rich for his system.
Now from his foster home:
Scout is approximately 2 years and was neutered today, 11/5/2003. All went well with the surgery. He UTD on vaccines and on heartworm preventative. Scout has struggled with being in the crate in his foster home. He doesn’t like to be left alone and his foster dad thinks this is because his mom was home with him all day so it is an adjustment for him. Each day he does improve though, and he is quiet when his foster dad returns from work. Scout has not demonstrated any food issues with the other dogs in his foster home. They have even dipped their heads in his bowl because he was eating slowly the first few days and did not react negatively at all.
Scout’s foster dad thinks that he is just an all around great dog and reports that he will be sad to see this boy go. Are you the one who can provide him with the love and security he has grown accustomed to since his rescue a year ago.
