Original: “When he isn’t being cuddled by one of his people, Scooter likes to play ball, fetch, and chase birds.”
Scooter the Cocker spaniel looked enough like a Springer puppy that he just had to come to become a MAESSR boy! He was relinquished to MAESSR by his Virginia family because he started getting object possessive and there were three young children in the home―not a good situation. Scooter would not give the items up to the kids and this caused many problems. Due to this, Scooter will not be placed in a home with young children or one in which young children would be visiting frequently.
In his foster home, the adults and teens are able to take anything from Scooter. They are also working with him on the concept of trading what he has for something even better. He likes that game!
Scooter loves to be in the middle of all the action and follows his foster dad EVERYWHERE in true Velcro fashion. This sweet cuddlebug loves to be loved on by family members and get his requisite quota of belly rubs daily. When he isn’t being cuddled by one of his people, he likes to play ball, fetch, and chase birds. Scooter rides well in the car, too, and seems to like to go for rides.
Mostly housetrained, Scooter still needs someone to keep an eye on him to make sure he is taken outside on a regular basis. This little guy is crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night. Don’t think this little guy does not have his opinions; Scooter is afraid of the vacuum and the dark and he does not like his feet wet!
Although Scooter has had no formal training, he does know “sit,” “fetch,” and “spin around.” The puppy in him really shows when he is walked on leash; he grabs the leash and pulls it in his mouth. As with all MAESSR pups, Scooter will be required to take obedience classes. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Scooter is a smart pup and he will be at the head of his class!
This sweet pup is ready to find his forever home where he will receive the love and exercise and training needed to make him a happy, well-behaved member of the family. Scooter has lots of love and kisses to share!
