Update 10/14/2013: “Scooter enjoys sleeping in the sun or next to another body – human, dog, or otherwise!”
Scooter, the super senior, has been such an easy-going guy. His foster dad reports that the supplements Scooter takes for his joints appear to be helping. He’s now able to get up on the bed with little help from his weakened back legs as his front paws are very strong! Although he needed some help to get on the table at the groomers, he was a perfect gentleman during his grooming.
This sociable boy loves his family. With no food or toy aggression, he is great with the other dogs and has love and kisses to share. Scooter enjoys sleeping in the sun or next to another body – human, dog, or otherwise! His foster dad calculates that Scooter probably sleeps about 18 hours a day, although he wouldn’t describe him as low energy as he rations his energy for the important things in life. Perfectly housetrained, Scooter just goes out as needed. What a great guy!
While he enjoys a walk, currently his foster dad is working on Scooter’s leash skills. He loves to take rides in the car and he enjoys a good game of fetch. His foster dad will roll a tennis ball and Scooter will trot after it, returning the ball and dropping it for the next toss.
Springer seniors are the best! Just ask Scooter.
Original: “Scooter loves grooming, bathing, cuddling, getting his ears scratched and a favorite bone in the toy box—what a guy!! “
Scooter came to MAESSR from a humane society in eastern Pennsylvania. He appears to have received good care before that time, but his early history is unknown.
This wonderful older gentleman was exposed to Lyme disease sometime during his life and will always test positive for it. As a precautionary step, he is being treated for it now. Since he is showing some signs of hip problems and diminished strength in his back paws, he has started a supplement that supports joint health. His vision is normal for his age, his teeth are in great shape, and his ears are normal. What a good boy he was during his vet exam!
MAESSR’s senior citizen is now living happily with four other Springers and has had no problems meeting other people or dogs. He is totally house trained and has free run of his new home. He does not counter-surf, trash dive, resource guard food or toys, or chew inappropriately. He follows his foster dad like most Velcro Springers do, and when he barks, it’s usually to greet his dad. Practice walking on a leash will be part of his future.
Scooter loves grooming, bathing, cuddling, getting his ears scratched and a favorite bone in the toy box—what a guy!! Nail cutting, however, is not his favorite thing.
Seasoned Springers like Scooter are simply sensational! Wouldn’t you like to welcome this handsome, well-behaved fellow into your home for the wonderful fall season, upcoming holidays and the rest of his life?
