Update 04/02/08:
There are times when love is not enough. When Savannah came into MAESSR’s care, she seemed to check out well health-wise. But, as her family became acquainted with her and carefully observed her, the need to consider a serious underlying issue surfaced. After consultation with her veterinarian, it was believed that Savannah had an untreatable brain tumor. With sadness the decision was made to give her peaceful passage to the Bridge.
Original:
A shelter staff in northeastern Pennsylvania met Savannah when her family relinquished her because, with a dog, they were at risk of eviction. She was placed briefly with a family who returned her because, as she settled in, she became intolerant of the resident female dog. The two dogs had met previous to Savannah’s adoption and did well but with time, Savannah’s strong alpha personality emerged. In her foster home she is also living with another dog and her behavior is being evaluated carefully. She sits nicely for her treats next to her foster brother, but it’s clear she will do best in a home without other dogs, neither male nor female, or cats.
Beyond Savannah’s difficulty when living with other dogs, she is a really good girl. She is completely housebroken and almost never has accidents. Her crate is a protective haven for her. She will go in it and sleep when her foster parents are in the room. Savannah likes to be close to her people and will cry some if left in the crate when her family goes out or at night. Since she is trustworthy she is sleeping bedside outside her crate and will enjoy having a forever family who spends more of their time at home than away.
Savannah minds her manners and doesn’t steal food or beg at the table. Although she gets a little nervous in the car, she does like to go for rides. She knows how to “sit,” “shake” and “stay.” Her foster family has had her off leash outdoors and she comes when called. She loves to run but comes back to make sure her people are alright. She has been around their 7-year-old grandson with no problems.
Snow brings out Savannah’s most playful side. She loves the snow and rolls in it with glee. She is very energetic and will need a yard to play in. Long walks with her people would be great too!
Some people may think Savannah looks a little funny. Her nose is her most distinguishing trait and a bit irregular says her vet from injury a long time ago. The vet says her nose would be easy to fix, but in the short time her foster family has had her, they are not even paying attention to her nose. She’s so cute in so many other ways and can steal someone’s heart in a heart beat.
Savannah has had several homes in her lifetime already and would like to have only one more – the one she can stay in for the rest of her days, the one she can give her love to, the one with people who will love her as much as she loves them. If you love the closeness that living with springers brings, and are dog-less at this time, please ask about Savannah. It’s people who mean everything to this gal.
