Savannah is a 7-year-old field-type springer whose family is moving to a new home without a yard and the two children that she has grown up with are going away to college. Savannah needs a new home and most importantly needs a new group of kids to play with. Her current family has had her since she was 6 months old and in this time she has been a playmate for the kids and loyal family companion. She has never bitten or shown any signs of aggression to people. She is very energetic and enthusiastic so don’t let her age fool you! She loves people and loves to play ball and will retrieve a tennis ball all day. If no one wants to play she will carry the ball around just in case. Currently she plays with 8 and 10-year-old kids who visit. She loves to play in the water but would rather keep her feet on the ground than be in over her head. Last winter she rode on a sled with her adult owner!
Savannah is housetrained, is crate-trained, and her owners leave her in her large dog pen with a dog house when no one is home. However, if there is a thunderstorm while she is alone, outside, she becomes very frightened. Inside the house with her people, she is fine and can weather the storm. She enjoys being outside and loves the leash to be taken for walks and will willingly heel as you walk. She wants to be with her people rather than run off and knows sit, stay, come, heel and stand up on her hind legs.
Savannah is not good with cats and she does well with other dogs, but the owner is not sure how she is with very small dogs. She has had no exposure with small dogs.
She will not jump on people, dig, bark excessively or steal food, but she might beg if you appear to be a soft touch. Unlike other springers, she would rather sleep on a rug than on a fluffy bed.
Savannah would make a great family companion for someone who is looking for a dog with the enthusiasm of youth and the wisdom and dignity of an adult.
Update 5/20/03:
Savannah is now in her forever home!
