Sarge is happy to be back in a home situation. He was dropped off at a shelter because his owner didn’t want to care for him in his senior years. When he arrived at his foster home, he had a severe ear infection that was causing him pain as well as a bad eye infection and some open sores on his paws.
His foster family took him to the vet who started him on medication for his ears and eyes and now he is finally feeling good again. The vet found him to be in fine shape for his age. He will have a cyst removed this month, his teeth will be cleaned as well, and then, he will be ready for a new family to share his life.
Sarge’s only fault is that he really doesn’t like the dry dog food his foster mom keeps trying to get him to eat! He much prefers people food, especially chicken, beef, or pork! She’s persistent though because both she and the vet feel Sarge has some allergies and would like to see him quit licking his paws so much. He is doing better with the dry food but still gets some chicken mixed in which he gobbles down right away! At 52 lbs., his foster mom knows he is getting enough to eat even if he leaves a little kibble.
Although Sarge does not like a crate, he is well behaved while in one. His foster family has found that he really doesn’t need one, though, because he has impeccable house manners. He is housebroken, doesn’t chew on anything left lying around, and is not at all interested in climbing on furniture! He sits for dog treats as soon as he sees them, is obedient and gives paw. At night he sleeps with his foster parents in their room on a bedside blanket with his two foster brothers. He is unknown with cats at this time, but didn’t give a second look at the caged bunnies at the shelter when he walked through their area.
Now that his ears are feeling better, Sarge is beginning to blossom and play with his foster brothers. His favorite toy is the rope tug. His absolute favorite activity is to lay beside his foster mom or dad and get hugs and rubs. He gets very excited when they (especially his dad!) come home and he runs to greet them at the door. Sarge may have a little grey in his fur, but his heart is still young. He has a lot of energy for a senior, well, almost a senior. He is hoping to find a family who wants him as a companion to love for the rest of his life.
