Update 10/03/11:
Sarah is a MAESSR girl who found a very loving home. Through no fault of her own, she returned to MAESSR when her owner developed a serious health issue and was no longer able to care for her. Luckily for Sarah, her friends at MAESSR will work hard to find her a very special family to call her own.
Arriving at her foster home at 9:00 PM on a weeknight, Sarah promptly found a place to sleep under a table. She gave her foster folks a look with curious eyes as if to ask, “Am I going to be okay?” and then settled right in.
Sarah has previously lived amicably with other dogs. In her foster home, she gets along great with the resident female Springer. To her credit, she has been tolerant of the resident and foster terriers who often put their paws on her back to get closer for group petting. Good girl, Sarah! It is reported that Sarah’s past interactions with children as young as two were positive and affectionate. Her foster mom suspects that she would treat children like the other dogs and humans she meets, welcoming the contact. While she might chase the furry critters outside, Sarah doesn’t obsess about it. She reportedly has lived with a cat successfully. Her approach – just ignore it!
A very easy going and well behaved girl, Sarah has not been crate trained and has free roam of her foster home. She’s completely housebroken and has not exhibited any signs of counter surfing or trash picking. Respectful of her humans, she does not jump on them and responds to sit and come.
Sarah is a calm girl who has reportedly loved being a couch potato with her human, something very unusual for a young Springer. On the other hand, Sarah loves walks and is good on leash, so a few extra pounds she carries will soon melt off. It’s possible that Sarah would be fine off leash, but since her foster home does not have a fenced yard, this hasn’t been tested. When she’s in high spirits, on a long leash, Sarah struts around with her front feet flinging forward like a hackney pony. Occasionally she will bark at a passing dog, but her tail is wagging at the same time. This is the only time her foster mom has heard Sarah bark. She doesn’t seem to want to go swimming with her foster sister, but does love long woodland hikes.
Car rides are easy with Sarah; she just settles down and watches the world go by. Reports from the groomers indicate that Sarah has no grooming issues. She was sweet and somewhat shy for them.
Showing no signs of separation anxiety, Sarah is a real wiggle tail when her foster folks come home or come downstairs in the morning. When spoken to in a loving tone, she does a little dance with all four feet on the ground. How cute is that?
This super sweet, laid back girl would make a wonderful addition to any family. While she’d probably love to have a doggy sibling, human company is even better!
Original:
Due to a change in her work schedule, Sarah’s New Jersey owner no longer had the time to devote to her care. She surrendered Sarah to MAESSR knowing that a perfect home would be found.
Sarah is a little lady who has adjusted well to her foster home. She gets along with the resident English Springer Spaniel and is generally a calm, laid-back girl. Sarah is housetrained and has good house manners overall. She does not get up on furniture, but will occasionally cruise the counters to see if anything tasty has been left up there. Although she is not crate-trained, she is trustworthy in the house and has free run whether her foster mom is there or not. At night, Sarah sleeps on the floor in her foster mom’s bedroom.
Riding in the car is one of Sarah’s favorite activities! She also walks well on leash, and loves to get pets from her foster mom. Sarah doesn’t know many commands, but does respond to sit. Sarah is a special girl looking for a forever family that will give her as much love as she gives them.
