Update 08/26/10:
Precious little Sara! One look at her pictures and who could not fall in love with Sara!?
Despite scant news to share, be assured that Sara is not overlooked nor forgotten. She remains in the care of her foster family where she is much loved and doing well. She has everything she needs to be a comfortable, content and happy senior!
Update 05/03/10:
Sara has settled with a new foster family and continues to do so well. She is such a sweet girl. The family has another Springer and the two get along like they’ve been together forever. Sarah also loves the three-year-old daughter in the family.
She is really a loving dog, follows her family all around and loves to be petted and rubbed and talked to sweetly. There has been no separation anxiety or other issues. It really is like she has been a part of the family forever. She will be visiting a vet to have her stomach mass assessed shortly. Keep fingers crossed for good news to come!
Original:
When her previous owner found that a busy work schedule made it difficult to care for Sara, she took her to a shelter in West Virginia. The shelter staff saw right away that Sweet Sara was a true gem who should not be lingering in a shelter. So, Sara became a MAESSR girl!
With her sweet face and dark soulful eyes, everyone who meets Sara quickly falls in love with her. She is very calm and affectionate and is a true Velcro Springer. She follows her foster mom around the house and yard, wagging her tail the whole time. While in the yard, Sara is trusted off-leash with supervision to do her business. She enjoys slow walks around the neighborhood, has impeccable leash manners, and has a lot of spring in her step! This sprightly senior has easily been mistaken for a much younger girl. Sara rides well in the car and enjoys her car outings, but prefers a little boost to get into her foster family’s SUV.
Sara responds well to “sit,” “come,” and “go lay down.” She is a champion treat catcher and her house manners are top notch. Obviously trained to stay off the furniture in her previous home, she does not get on the sofa or bed and is content napping on the floor at her foster mom’s feet. Although she does not counter-surf, Sara quickly learned which countertop the treat jar is on and she sits below it until she hears that joyful “clang” of the jar being opened! Curious to see what goodies may be hidden in the trash, Sara was caught a few times peering into the trash can. It is now kept out of sight so as not to tempt this little girl when she gets a case of the munchies. As much as she would love to remain underfoot while her foster mom makes dinner, Sara is easily directed into the other room and watches meal preparation from the doorway.
To say Sara is not a fan of the crate is an understatement. She does much better being confined to a small space and spends her time napping on the enclosed sun porch when the family is not home. At night she sleeps on the floor alongside the bed, and in the morning she greets everyone with her sweet eyes and tail wagging at the speed of light, as if to say, “Where have you been all my life?!”
A bit chubby, Sara is on weight management dog food and will continue her daily walks for some much-needed exercise. She has no interest in playing with toys, but prefers to lay in the sun near her foster mom for pets and belly rubs. If Sara is on her back and you stop petting her, she will paw at you and moan and roll around with her tail wagging, asking for more.
Upon examination at the vet’s office, it was found that Sara has a mass in her abdomen. She had an ultrasound, which gave the doctor a better idea of its size and location, and there will be further evaluation to see what the next step of action will be.
Sara is a pro at this family dog thing and is sure to be a loyal and loving companion to her new family. If you are looking for a genuine sweetheart, then Sara is your girl!
