Update 11/30/07: It’s with much sadness that this last news is added for Sara. Her foster family took her to the vet for spaying, expecting her to be ready to go to her forever home after that. She was the sweetest, most loveable dog they had ever had. Their children and grandchildren wanted her to stay in the family. Her groomer knew a retired person who wanted to adopt her. Sara loved everyone she met and they loved her.
Soon after leaving Sara with the vet that morning, her foster mom got a call. They had begun the operation and discovered an advanced and untreatable condition. It was a shock to everyone as Sara had shown no symptoms of anything. The painful decision was made to let her go. Amidst tears and the knowing that this little shelter dog had reached into many, many hearts, Sara will be remembered as one very special little ambassador for rescue.
Update 11/13/07: The only thing between Sara and her new beginning is spaying and she will see her veterinarian this week for that need. Her initial hearing impairment remains steady. Her foster mom reports that Sara gets along just fine with it and doesn’t let it slow her down in any way.
Sara’s only “big” problem is that she likes to drink out of what she may think of as “super-sized” water bowls. She’s even been caught trying to lift a commode lid. Now, when she’s not crated, her family just keeps the doors to the bathrooms closed– a problem easily solved!
Sara recently was treated to a professional grooming and proved to be a real trooper. The groomer was so taken by her that she was going home to contact someone she thought might want to adopt Sara. The foster mom explained about visiting MAESSR’s website for details on how to adopt, so that was her next step. Sara will make a great partner for a retired couple or a person who can be with her and give her a lot of attention. What a great little ambassador for rescue she is while on the way to her own forever family!!
Original: Sara is a doll who came to MAESSR via a PA shelter. Weighing just 36 lbs., she’s tiny but lively and very sweet tempered. Although she is a senior, she certainly is not acting old! Nothing seems to make her anxious or shy. She loves to be petted and will roll over for every belly rub she can get.
Sara just loves people. At the vets she greeted everyone and was quiet and ladylike when she was given shots and had blood taken. The vet was not concerned about the fatty tumor on her back and a small one on her face. Neither has to be removed. Sara probably has some hearing loss because you have to walk right up to her before she wakes up. She’s very aware of where her people are, though, and responds to hand signals well.
When Sara and her foster parents go for walks, she will go the length of the leash, but comes right back to her people for some petting. Sara is very good with her foster parents’ six-year-old grandson. In fact, he walks her on the leash and she is perfectly behaved for him. Sara does not seem to respond to basic commands orally; this is probably due to her hearing problem. Because of her age and some arthritis, Sara does not jump at all. She needs to be lifted into the car, and once in, she rides well quietly looking around as if she were very accustomed to going for a drive. She is also well behaved when she is around other dogs and she and the resident male Springer get along just fine.
Sara is such a sweet, gentle lady. She will make a very good companion for anyone wishing to take slow walks and have a small, furry friend to shower with love. Is yours the forever home that Sara is looking for?
