Original: Sandy is doing very well in foster care. She loves other dogs and people. She might be a cat chaser, but we don’t know that yet. She is a very happy girl. She has not had any problems with housebreaking. She crates very well. She needs time, love and training.
She was an owner turn in at a shelter in West Virginia. Her previous owners said they did not want her any more. She was so matted and stinky it just broke her first foster mom’s heart. We had to shave her hair because it was in such bad shape. She is extremely thin. The shelter had neglect on her ticket…you can believe that just by looking at her. She had lived in a pen all of her life. She now loves exploring her “new world”…everything is new to her. Bird baths..hoses…being inside….having plenty of food to eat…having someone to pet her and talk to her…being allowed to run around the yard and be free.
Sandy’s adopting family will be required to take her to an obedience class. She has no concept of sit, stay, down, etc. She is very smart and has learned several things already. If you had to sum her up in one word….that word would be “JOYFUL”.
Her temperament is good. She takes food gently from your hand. We do not know how she is with small children or cats yet. Right now, we would not suggest she be put into a home with small kids, because she is going to need a lot of work…and we know families with small kids do not have a lot of time.
Before we could get better pictures of Sandy up, she went to her new home with her “brother” Nicholas who was adopted from MAESSR too!
Update: 10/12/2002 Sandy went to her forever home.
