Update 05/07/08:
With just two more shots to complete her vaccinations, Sandie will be up to date on everything. She is doing very well with her spaying, the last hurdle for her before adoption.
Sandie continues to do well in her foster home and is getting along with the two resident Springers. She has an issue when meeting other dogs for the first time and takes time to adjust. Additional socialization in her adopting home will be important to help her overcome this.
This girl is a “love bug” – Big Time! She has no problems with adults or children. Visiting with grandchildren, ages 3 and 5, in her foster home has been part of her experience. You can touch or pet her anywhere and at anytime. She listens well when off leash and will usually stay close. On leash, she walks well and will politely sit down to allow you to attach her leash. Very pretty too!
When her family is not home, Sandie uses a crate and does well in it. She will sleep on the floor next to the bed at night. She fills a lap but likes nothing better than sitting on one when she gets the chance. Also at the top of her list of favorites is the water at the beach. She got to visit there with her foster family and doesn’t mind sand between her toes one bit.
Sandie is ready for some thoughtful guidance from a loving family, more lap time, more vacation days, and all the sand you can bring on! She can have her towel and umbrella packed in a heartbea – and her heart will beat faster when the perfect family asks her to be their beach buddy!
Original:
Sandie III was found as a stray in North Carolina. Local Springer rescue was swamped with incoming dogs so they contacted MAESSR for assistance in finding Sandie a new home.
This pretty Springer has adjusted very well to life with her foster family. Her disposition is very lovable and she is a double-sided Velcro dog. Sandie must be the center of attention all the time and she will push herself in between the two resident Springers for attention. She loves to have her belly rubbed and will roll over to get some attention. Point blank, she is an attention-hound who loves children and adults. She thinks she is a lap dog, too, and she knows where the food is stored! After life on the road, that is an important piece of information to know. She loves cookies and other treats, but she will not steal food or counter surf and she leaves the trash alone. Sandie is not food aggressive either.
Sandie is an alpha dog and she has had a few tiffs with the resident Springers. After about a week, everything has settled into a normal routine. She has the run of the house when her foster parents are home, and she is in the crate when they are not. She sleeps on the floor on a dog blanket, but she likes to jump on the bed. Her foster parents are working with her so she does not to go on the bed. Once she settles in for the night, she will sleep through the night on her blanket.
Sandie seems to be housebroken and has had no accidents. However, she doesn’t go to the door to signal when she has to go outside. So, her foster parents take her out after she eats, after playing and at regular intervals until they can figure out her signs indicating she needs to go out.
Sandie has lots of energy and loves to run outside. She loves to chase rabbits, birds, and, undoubtedly, cats. She will bark only if she sees something out of the ordinary. At some point in her life, she must have received some training because she walks well on the leash and will listen to basic commands. Within the fenced yard of her foster home, she will come when called, but her foster parents would not trust her off the leash out of the yard. Sandie likes riding in the car and is a good passenger.
This little gal will make a wonderful addition to some lucky family!
