Original: Sammy’s Virginia family had raised him from a puppy, but when they had a change in living situation and could no longer keep him, Sammy was relinquished to MAESSR.
Sammy’s foster mom finds him to be a delight! With his lovely house manners, Sammy does not get on the furniture, and in the kitchen, he does not counter-surf or get into the trash. He is not a chewer, and he does not jump on people unless he is extremely excited. Then, he will stop as soon as he is told. He only barks when someone comes to the door.
Having a fairly high energy level, Sammy needs to be exercised at least twice a day, mostly by playing ball and running around the yard. He loves his walks and is good on leash for a two-year-old dog. Sammy is good with dogs, cats and adults, but was a little unsure about the two-year-old visiting his foster home. Inside the house, Sammy is very quiet. He reminds his foster mom of a big teddy bear lumbering around behind her as they move from room to room. Although not the typical Velcro Springer, he does like to be near his people, but never gets in the way as he finds a quiet place to lie down.
Sammy loves to be brushed and is good about having his ears cleaned. Day or night, Sammy is always ready for a belly rub. As for commands, Sammy knows sit, down, stay, and wait and although he knows come, it is not always his priority. So, his foster family is working on this one. Housetrained and crate trained, Sammy will go into his crate on command, but his foster family has not found the need to crate him much since he is so good. He has the run of the house day and night. Sammy will go into his crate on his own if he feels unsure or there is too much activity in the house. He does need some work on building his confidence, but he is a sweet, cuddly boy.
Does sweet Sammy seem like a good match for you?
