Samantha, Sami for short, came into rescue along with her brother, Rusty, because their owner was moving. At 51 pounds and 17 inches at the shoulder, Sami should lose a bit of weight, but it’s hard to fault a dog with a good appetite.
She has had a major haircut, and in no time at all, her beautiful coat and feathering will grow out. While at the vet’s office with her foster mom, she was very well behaved and everyone made a big fuss over her. She had a cyst aspirated and the results were negative for bad cells. Since she tested positive for Lyme disease, she has now started on a short-term medication to cure that problem.
This lady is housebroken and has wonderful manners. She is trustworthy to leave for long periods of time and does not need to be confined. She is not destructive, nor does she bark when left alone, counter surf or trash pick. Sami will get on furniture but gets down when told. She is sleeping in a crate next to her foster mom’s bed and snores through the night.
Sami gets along great with the two young springers in her foster home. She shows no signs of toy or food aggression. In fact, Sami will willingly share her bone with the resident dogs. Of course, this does not hold true for the resident dogs, as they are not as kind and generous! When they growl a warning at her, Sami looks at her mom as if to say, “what is their problem?” She has ignored the cats or gently sniffed them out of curiosity.
When at the dog park, Sami runs, chases tennis balls, and has an overall great time. She loves to carry things around in her mouth. Sami is good on leash but will pull a little on the way home. She comes when called and knows “sit” and “stay.” She is good in the car but must be in a harness or crate, as she will chew through her leash within minutes. She is a bit prone to car sickness and should eat only lightly before she travels.
Sami has lived with children in their teens and loved the attention of younger visitors. Her foster mom feels she would make a great family dog because of her sweet and mellow manner. If you are looking for a beautiful, laid-back springer to add to your family, Sami is the one for you!
