Update 10/13/03:
Sam had his second phase of the heartworm treatment on Oct 9th. He’s supposed to be quietly recovering and his foster parents are doing their best, but keeping this little ball of energy quiet is a tough job. Sam is scheduled to go for a recheck on 10-30-03. Keep your fingers crossed that he will be heartworm negative! Once he tests HW -, Sam will be neutered and have a fatty tumor removed.
Sam’s foster family says that he is doing just great and they don’t know anyone that has seen him that hasn’t fallen for him!
We will update Sam again after his re-check.
Original:
Sam came to us when his owners moved to a location where they could no longer have animals. The groomer fell in love with him while cleaning him up. This is one of the sweetest dogs you could ever come across. He gets along with kids, cats, and the resident Springer who was really jealous. Sam just took it in stride and said, “Hey, you gotta love me because I’m so sweet.” They now play together.
Sam loves attention but sleeps on his pillow in the kitchen with no problem. He can jump a baby gate so we just got one a little taller and that took care of that. It was reported that he was scared of thunder but we haven’t seen that. Maybe, because he has a companion that stays close.
We were also told that Sam will chase birds and kill them. We haven’t seen that either and so far he hasn’t been very interested in any of the birds that hang out at one of the three feeders in the yard.
He knows sit, lie down and stay. He his housebroken and waits patiently at the door to go out. Once the door is opened he loves to run around and is really energetic. He will get on the furniture but once told down, he moves right off. He does OK on the leash and just needs more practice. He loves treats and we’re working on him taking them without so much enthusiasm. Sam is in really good shape and the prognosis for the heartworm treatment is excellent.
