Update 11/12/11:
Things are looking good on the health front for Sally. The vet feels that her UTI has cleared, but she will be treated for an extra month, just to be sure. At the end of the month, Sally will be tested again to ensure all is clear. If it is, she will be available for adoption then.
In the meantime, Sally has moved to another foster home. She’s only been there a few days and already her foster mom is smitten with her! This little girl is adorable and her tail goes 50 miles an hour all the time, even when she is eating! One could never be lonely with Sally the charmer in the house; she keeps up a running conservation and would be the clear winner of any Woo Woo contest. Sally’s previous foster mom echoed this sentiment, commenting that this girl has the most wonderful Springer woo woo that she has heard in a long time!
Sally has been perfect in her new foster home and sleeps all night in an open crate in her foster mom’s bedroom. This little girl is a keeper, so if you want sunshine and happiness in your household, think about Sally!
Update 10/07/11:
Sweet Sally had her dental procedure and came through it with flying colors. Unfortunately, the vet determined that she was still battling a very resistant UTI that will require further intervention. Sally’s course of treatment has been altered to be more aggressive. This change should have her feeling great in no time. Through it all, Sally’s personality has remained wonderful. It won’t be long before she’s completely healthy and ready to join her forever family at last.
Update 08/27/11:
Good news for Sally! She is now heartworm free and she has completely recovered from her UTI. Life always looks much better when you’re feeling good! Now that her major health issues are behind her, Sally soon will be receiving a dental cleaning to ensure continuing dental health.
Heartworm treatment requires restricted activity for dogs. Now that she is active again, Sally has found a new favorite activity – visiting the horse pasture and rolling in stuff. The simple joys in life can give such pleasure! Sally has become quite attached to her foster mom and prefers to be the closest dog to her mom.
This sweet, wonderful, little girl would love to be a loyal member of her very own family!
Update 07/21/11:
Sally has made it through the first in a series of heartworm treatments and is recovering well. Her foster mom is keeping her very quiet so that the medicine is able to do its work. It was also discovered that Sally had a bad urinary tract infection, so she is now being treated for that as well. Through it all, Sally has shown that she is a very sweet girl who just keeps getting sweeter. Keep watching this page for updates as Sally’s health continues to improve!
Original:
When her family in North Carolina could no longer care for Sally, they relinquished her to a local shelter. Since the shelter was full, staff members contacted MAESSR to get this sweet girl into a foster home and eventually a new forever home.
Although kept as an outside dog, Sally had not been given monthly heartworm preventatives and as a result, she tested positive for this ailment. She is now receiving treatment for this malady and her foster family is making sure she follows the prescribed protocol for her recovery. This involves restricting her activity so as not to exacerbate her heart’s impairment due to the worms infestation.
All MAESSR Springers are given monthly heartworm preventatives by their foster families and it is required that their adopted families continue with this simple treatment to prevent heartworm infestation.
Watch for updates on Sally’s progress through this grueling treatment.
