Update 11/10/03:
Sally Mae has found a family to love her!
Update: 10/25/03:
Upon further examination, Sallie Mae’s doctors discovered that she had a stone in her bladder that was quite large. Sallie Mae had her surgery this week to remove the stone and did fine. She was very tired and went home and right into her crate and napped for about 3 hours! She does have an Elizabethan collar and is bumping into everything. She is really good about letting her foster mom put it on her, but she just looks as if to say this thing is really a pain but if you want me to wear it, I will. She is so sweet and a very good girl. The vet sent the stone to Minnesota to be analyzed He said it was very large & very rough. The results usually take about 3-4 weeks to come back. We’ll update again when we have the results.
Orginal:
Sallie Mae was given up because her owner had to be admitted to a nursing home. The owner’s niece was caring for her, but with 3 dogs and 3 cats of her own and her own health issues she could no longer keep her. She is currently in foster care.
Sallie Mae is a sweetheart. She is very loving and is not aggressive in the least. She loves belly rubs and to have her ears and chin scratched. She loves kids and will “wiggle butt” when they walk into the room. She is currently living with children ages 8, 13 & 16. She is good with other dogs and cats although she prefers the company of humans to the foster family’s Springer.
Sallie Mae is currently being treated for a urinary tract infection. She needs to pee frequently and thus has had a couple of accidents in the house. She is believed to be housebroken, but with the UTI it may be difficult for her to wait to go out. She is crate-trained and will go in with a little encouragement. Once she is over her UTI she should be allowed free run of the house because she has very nice house manners. She doesn’t chew or jump on the furniture. She doesn’t chew and comes when inside but does not come consistently when outside. In her previous home she would jump the 3½-4 foot fence and run to explore the neighborhood. She has attempted to make a dash from the foster home, also.
Sallie Mae is 50 pounds and should probably lose at least 5 pounds. She has probably been given people food because she doesn’t appear to be that interested in her kibble. She will beg and put her nose in your lap when people are eating but will sit, down when told (although she doesn’t move too far away).
Sallie Mae likes to go for walks and to play with balls & squeaky toys. Her former family says she loves water, but she has not had the opportunity to swim since coming into faster care. She is also happy to lay at her people’s feet and nap.
Sallie Mae will be a wonderful companion to some lucky family. Could that family be you?
