As happens with many adoptions, Sadie’s adopting family had followed her on the website and were excited to get her.
Shortly after arriving in her new home, more good things began happening for this gal. The first involved meeting a family whose five home-schooled daughters were involved with the 4-H dog training program. The family had two standard poodles but needed two more dogs for their daughters to work with. So every Monday over the summer, Sadie was off to 4-H classes with her new 13 year-old handler. Her handler also showed Sadie at the 4-H competition during the county fair in August. Sadie finished near the bottom of the pack in obedience and agility, but only because she had been in the program a couple of months, while other dogs had a couple of years in training. However, in the new category called “Promotions”, her young handler gave a speech about how Sadie was born on a puppy farm in Missouri, sold to a pet store in Virginia, picked up as a stray, rescued from a dog pound, and treated for heartworm by MAESSR before getting adopted and ending up in the show ring. Sadie and her young lady were awarded the Purple Grand Champion ribbon!!
At home Sadie has a Welsh springer pup to play with, and they both get to run in the field behind their house and chase geese. Sadie also developed a special relationship with the woman who lives across the street, and she goes for overnights every weekend. Pretty good outcome to date for this springer!!
Original:
Sadie is a playful, active, small, spayed female born 07/02/01. She was found as a stray in Orange County, VA. She has an identification chip number which was never registered and her new owner will want to do that so she never, ever is lost again. Sadie is housebroken and never has made a mistake in her foster home, and never has torn up or destroyed anything.
Sadie has a beautiful dark liver “blanket” down her back including her docked tail and lots of white on her legs and belly. She has ticking freckles on her muzzle and forehead and a raccoon-type mask of liver color around her eyes, all liver colored ears, and lots of ticking on her legs.
Sadie already knows some commands…she sits, stays in place, happily goes into her crate to eat and sleep, and usually comes when called. She pulls a little when walking on leash, and is very excited when she sees visitors but calms down quickly when the greetings are over.
At age two and a half Sadie loves to run and play, chase a ball, charge up and down the backyard, sniff out squirrel tracks, stick her nose in the snow, and “springs” for joy as she runs. She snuggles up to the “resident” dog in her foster home and is interested in getting to know all the dogs on the block. Sadie would like to chase cats when they are moving, but then she chases anything that moves, and her foster mom is working with her to just walk on by them when she sees them and she is getting better at ignoring the neighborhood cats. Sadie is a very good watchdog and barks when anyone comes near the house, but quickly quiets down when told “quiet.”
Sadie has had all her vaccinations and got a complete bill of health from her vet visit. She weighed in at 46 pounds, and was very cooperative when she was examined. She did not mind having her teeth examined, or her paws touched, but she does worry when hands come down toward her face and she will cower just a bit.
Her foster mom had her shaved so she looks like a puppy right now. Sadie is a snuggler, leans against her foster mom when petted, and longs to have a “forever” home where her people have an active lifestyle; kids and other pets would be great too.
