Original: “Sweet and loving, playful and expressive, Sadie is a real Velcro Springer who is partial to cuddling with her humans and getting belly rubs.”
Miss Sadie was purchased as a puppy from a Pennsylvania breeder. Her family surrendered her to MAESSR knowing she deserved more attention than their work and travel situation permitted especially since she is young and moderately active.
What a wonderful little gal her foster mom has found Miss Sadie to be and what a real joy to foster! Sweet and loving, playful and expressive, Sadie is a real Velcro Springer who is partial to cuddling with her humans and getting belly rubs. She has gotten along well with the two resident dogs, although the resident Springer, who tends to be a curmudgeon, grumbles at her as she unsuccessfully tries to engage him in play. Her foster mom expects Sadie will soon discover that the resident female beardie mix would be a great play partner!
Sadie is a model house guest! There has been no inappropriate chewing, no accidents, no begging, no counter-surfing, no trash-diving, no separation anxiety, no resource guarding, no digging, or no fence jumping. Such a good girl! This little miss does like to get up on the furniture with her humans as she loves to cuddle. On the floor she will often sit on her human’s foot. Sadie will need some work on not jumping on people as she is very enthused to greet others especially after she has been crated.
Perfect in the crate, Sadie spends the day there while her foster mom is at work. At night she sleeps on a dog pillow next to her foster mom’s bed. She would prefer to be in foster mom’s bed but accepts her lot in life. Her former family crated her at night to keep her off the bed. When the family was gone, she stayed in the basement/garage with access to an outside pen through a doggy door. She had free run of the house when they were home as she does now in her foster home.
Sadie had obedience training and knows “sit,” “lie down,” “shake,” “fetch,” “stay,” “leave it,” and “off.” She sits politely for her treats. Sadie enjoys playing fetch inside and out, tug-of-war, and chewing on bones. She is an active play-growler and will lie down and whine with her head under the sofa if her ball goes under there. Miss Sadie loves her walks for which she wears an Easy Walk harness. She does need minor fine tuning on her leash work so she does not move all over the place. Sadie is currently walking with the two resident dogs and handles their company well. She does not get overly excited about anything encountered on walks other than occasional little dogs barking at her within their fenced yards. Even then, she just needs a reminder to walk on. So far, Sadie has ridden well in the car. She is a little excited at first but calms down and looks out the window or takes a nap.
At the vet’s office, Sadie was a hit! Her foster mom had to get her out of there before the vet tech took her home! Sadie was a little skittish during the exam but sure did like those treats. She got a clean bill of health, but the vet recommended that this little gal lose about three pounds. Maybe her behind wouldn’t waddle as much during walks!
Her foster mom hasn’t bathed Sadie yet but was told that if she disappears at the mention of a bath, she might be found sitting in the tub waiting. What a cooperative little girl! She enjoys being brushed and allows her ears and feet to be handled. And what a silky soft coat she has!
Sadie’s foster mom will be sad to see her leave but knows she will be a happy camper with a family of her own who will regularly exercise her with walks, romps in a fenced yard, and active games of fetch.
