Update 12/27/2016: “Sir Fluffy Tail loves attention and being with his family.“
What a difference a few weeks of consistent guidance and some anxiety medication can make. Sabre seems like a different dog. He now actively plays with all of the dogs in his foster home. Even when a new dog arrives, Sabre goes over for a quick sniff and then is ready to play. He is given free roam in his foster home and has not done anything inappropriate. His foster mom has not been crating him just because he does not like to be confined.
Sir Fluffy Tail loves attention and being with his family. The difference in his personality is just wonderful. He is so much more at ease with everything in his world. This young man is now ready for a forever home. Wouldn’t you like to start out the New Year with this happy love?
Original: “Outside in the fenced yard, Sabre is always on the prowl for squirrels and birds.”
Sabre had been adopted from a Virginia shelter by a family that had previously adopted from MAESSR. When his new owners went to work leaving him crated, Sabre began showing signs of anxiety. He even destroyed one crate and his owners were very concerned he was going to hurt himself in his escape attempts. Also, since Sabre had growled and snapped at the other dogs in the home, the family was afraid to leave him loose when no one was home. His owners worked full time and did not have the expertise or time to deal with his escalating issues. So, they contacted MAESSR to see if we could help this sweet boy.
Sir Fluffy Tail as Sabre is sometimes called likes to cuddle and be with his people. He sleeps in his foster parents’ bedroom on a doggie pillow at night. In his excitement to say hello to people, he does jump up in greeting. With nice house manners, he does not beg, counter-surf, or bark, Sabre does dig outside hoping to find items to chew on.
In his past Sabre had some obedience training and knows several of the basic commands; however, he is very selective about following them. He needs some work on his leash walking skills too since he currently pulls when out for a walk. He rides well in the car, though, especially if he can ride shotgun and have an open window!
Outside in the fenced yard, Sabre is always on the prowl for squirrels and birds. He does not seem to be attracted to water even though he had been by a lake often; swimming must not be his thing and he hates the bath. Luckily, he is okay for brushing. This handsome guy does not react to thunder storms or fireworks and he is not bothered by carsickness.
Sabre was started on an inexpensive medication to help with his anxiety. It has made a major improvement in his overall attitude toward the world. It has allowed him to calm down enough to enjoy people. One requirement of adopting him will be agreeing to keep Sabre on this anxiety medication for at least three months after adoption.
Sir Fluffy Tail is looking for someone to love him forever. Consider opening your heart to this sweet boy!
