Original: “Leaving kennel life behind, Rumour is adjusting well to living in her foster home.”
When a Maryland breeder decided to close the kennel, MAESSR stepped in to help with the placement of the dogs. Rumour was one of the Springers who MAESSR is now fostering.
This sweet little girl is very small but gorgeous! Leaving kennel life behind, Rumour is adjusting well to living in her foster home. Although timid when meeting new people, she does warm up with time. She definitely loves snuggling with her foster family, though. Rumor has not met any small children yet, but she has had interaction with other dogs at the park where she is well-mannered. At this point, she prefers doing her own thing rather than engaging other dogs in play. Being in the park gives her great opportunities to sniff around which she loves to do! When in her foster family’s backyard, Rumor loves to chase birds, squirrels, rabbits, and whatever else she spots there. Rumor has not gotten the hang of fetch or playing with her toys yet, but her foster parents keep trying to get her interested.
Rumour enjoys going for walks with her foster parents. Leash walking is something new for but she is a good learner who is eager to please. Taking obedience lessons would be a wonderful bonding experience for Rumour and her forever parents besides making communications better between her and forever family. Right now, the only command that she knows is “sit.” Rumour is getting used to riding in the car. Initially, she was very nervous. Her favorite spot is sitting next to the driver in the front seat, riding shotgun. Although apprehensive to jump into the car, she will jump out when the destination is reached.
Already housetrained, Rumour often runs to the door to signal her need to go out or at least to signal that she would like to go outside to snoop around since she likes being outdoors! She is crate trained too, but lies on the tile floor in the kitchen or hallway when her foster family is at work. At night Rumour likes to sleep in her foster parents’ bedroom for the most part. The only furniture that she jumps on is the couch and her foster parents’ bed. In the kitchen Rumour has done some counter-surfing but has not bothered the trash. Fed in the kitchen, Rumour is a good eater who loves her kibble as well as her treats! She does not resource guard her food either. Good girl!
Rumour had two trips to the doggie spa to get her in good shape. She was great for the groomers and gave them kisses while they worked to de-mat her coat and get her looking beautiful again! She was also friendly and happy at the vet where she received her vaccinations. The vet wanted to wait with spaying Rumour until she has time to build her strength and improve her nutrition.
This moderate energy girl has lots of energy when she is running around in the morning and afternoon, but she does slow down at night. Rumour likes to observe and stay mellow whether lying on the ground or on the bed. She loves to be petted and cannot get enough attention.
Watch for more on Rumour as she grows more and more comfortable with living in a home setting.
