Original: “Rudy is looking for a forever home where he will get lots and lots of attention, love, and activity!”
When Rudy’s New Jersey family was moving and could not bring along their dogs, they gave him to an elderly woman who loved him dearly and had him vetted, bringing him back to good health. However, young Rudy and this 84 year old new owner were a mismatch due to Rudy’s high energy level. Wanting the very best for her young Springer, she contacted MAESSR knowing that Rudy would find a wonderful home with an active family.
This youngster is great in the car and at the vet!! The vet commented that he was a “very chill dog.” In his previous home, Rudy had been treated for a skin infection which has now cleared; however, his paws are still healing. For this bacterial infection on his paws, he takes daily pills and his foster mom wipes his paws with medicated pads twice daily. He is very good with having his paws handled! Rudy is now up to date on all of his vaccinations and is just waiting for his paws to clear up and his neutering before the final boxes can be checked off before being eligible for adoption. Although getting a bath is not his favorite activity, Rudy does not try to escape from the tub. He is great with brushing!
Rudy is settling in well at his foster home. Due to the pandemic, Rudy has not spent much time home alone. When his foster mom and her roommates were gone for about two hours, he did nicely by himself. Housetrained, Rudy is taken out quite frequently so his lack of a signal for needing to go outside has not been an issue. His foster mom was told by his previous foster that he did not enjoy a crate, so he has not currently been using one.
A very, very sweet dog, Rudy just loves constant attention. He is quite the cuddler, too! He only plays with select toys such as a blue ball he arrived with and only then for a brief amount of time. What he really enjoys is to go on walks! He loves being outside and going on many excursions daily to burn off his energy. His leash walking skills do need work as he pulls EXTREMELY hard when he sees birds, squirrels, and any other small creatures, including outdoor cats. Rudy is quite good with other dogs he meets on his walks. He does not care to engage with hyper, yapping pups and chooses to ignore them. Good choice, Rudy! A people magnet, Rudy has been great with the children and adults he has met as well.
The only commands Rudy responds to are “sit” and “come.” His forever family would benefit from taking Rudy for obedience training so he can learn more commands and brush up on his leash walking skills.
Rudy has good house manners. He typically stays on the first floor of the house, other than at bedtime when he sleeps through the night on the floor next to his foster mom’s bed. Curious, Rudy does put his paws on the counter, but other than that he will not get into things.
