Rudolph, AKA Rudy, was found as a stray in Virginia. This field-bred, black and white, handsome boy appears to be 2 – 3 years old. Rudy must not have been on his own for long since he was found in good shape.
It’s possible that Rudy was trained for hunting since he responds to a call or whistle, sitting in front of his human as if waiting for the next command. He is very energetic and loves to run around the fenced yard. Often joining his foster brother searching for rabbits, Rudy will keep his nose to the ground, following the scent.
Apparently, Rudy spent little of his previous life indoors, since he has some issues with being pent up in his foster family’s house. He prefers to keep busy and will rip up paper left out and has been overly curious about the Christmas decorations! He is a typical, young Springer in that regard!
Housetrained, Rudy has never had an accident or marked in the house. Good boy! He will go to the door to signal his need to go out. It’s obvious that Rudy does not like the crate! If crated, he will bark and howl and fight to escape. Since he has been a fairly trustworthy houseguest, crating him has not been necessary.
Rudy has quickly learned the routine in his foster home. At night, he sleeps upstairs in the bedroom with his foster mom and dad, and he loves to jump on the bed to get some loving. He often falls asleep on a pillow next to his mom and dad, but does not stay in the bed all night. Once his parents are asleep, Rudy jumps off the bed and settles down on the floor for the night. He does get up on the furniture and loves to take a nap on the couch during the day.
A typical Velcro Springer, Rudy loves to be very close to his people, and he has been known to curl up on a lap whenever possible. He has been around people from 3 months to 89 years of age, and has been good with everyone. Not a shy bone in his body, Rudy loves to meet new people.
Toys are fun for Rudy, and he loves stuffed toys or toys with squeakers! If bored, Rudy will try to perform surgery on the toy to remove that squeaky noise! An avid chewer, Rudy enjoys a good beef bone which appears to meet his chewing needs.
Rudy and his foster brother play well together and love to roughhouse with each other. Occasionally, they get so excited that a phone or lamp has been knocked over! That’s when it’s time for some outside play! Rudy gets along with all of the other dogs he has met so far. Food guarding is not a problem with Rudy. In fact, he and his foster brother often eat from each other’s bowl during mealtime.
Riding in the car is enjoyable for Rudy, who prefers to sit up in the front with his people. He has had to learn to be a good passenger and sit in the back! Leash walking is not one of Rudy’s strengths, and he will need training in that area. He pulls hard because he wants to run free. Those hunting instincts are tough to resist! Rudy has learned his name and will come when called. He knows sit but hasn’t mastered stay, so he cannot be trusted off leash at this time.
Grooming Rudy is no problem because he loves to be brushed. He does not mind having his ears cleaned or his feet clipped, but he was not happy when his foster mom tried to brush his teeth! She is still working on that! He was a very good boy at the vet, and everyone there fell in love with him. He allowed the vet to do whatever he wanted as long as there was a treat to be had!
Rudy needs a family that will give him as much love as he gives them, a family that will provide him a safe place to run and play. Ideally, he will have a foster brother or sister to play with during the day. Human siblings would be an added bonus for this sweet, active boy!
