Original: “Rucca is a Velcro sort of guy, loving to be with his humans.”
Rucca’s Pennsylvania owners were working long hours and once they got home, he was often just put outside with no company. He took to jumping the 4′ fence into the neighbor’s yard to play with their dogs and licking his paws out of loneliness when left alone. So, his family felt that it was time for Rucca to find a home where he could thrive on the attention he needed. That’s when they contacted MAESSR.
At his foster home, Rucca has not even considered going over the 5′ fence since he LOVES his new doggie buddies and has settled right in to enjoy the contents of the toy basket. He loves squeaky toys and will play keep away with them and chase; however, he does not push his luck with the resident female if she has them. This active boy also loves walks, running, swimming, and car rides. The back yard baby-pool gets frequent use if Rucca’s playing chase with his foster sister.
Completely housebroken, Rucca can wait a long time before eliminating and then once outside, he does his business quickly. He has been crated but since he’s completely trustworthy with potty issues and both of the full-sized crates are used at night for sleeping by the resident dogs, he’s not currently crated.
When on a walk, Rucca pulls a little initially, but he soon settles down and goes at whatever speed his human wants. He knows “sit,” “down,” and a passable “roll-over.” He has no dog aggression at all, nor food guarding. During his first few days in foster care, he waited to be hand fed! The resident dogs don’t even have to grumble to keep him away from their dishes.
Rucca will occasionally put a paw up on the counter to investigate but gets down instantly with an “off’.” Although Rucca didn’t understand the concept of baby gates and walked through a couple, a stern “no” made him treat them as barriers correctly now. A real fan of water, Rucca jumps right into the baby pool for a bath, loves being groomed, and thinks that ear cleaning is just more attention.
Always ready for a walk, solo or in tandem, his tail wags constantly while checking out the neighborhood. Although he was reported to have a high prey drive, his foster folks haven’t seen this. He looks at his foster sister as though she’s being silly when she starts rushing about over a squirrel in the distance. If it’s not outside the window on the bird feeder, it’s not worth the bother. Chipmunks get ignored as being too small and strange dogs are greeted with more joy than perhaps the other dog wants to see.
Rucca is a Velcro sort of guy, loving to be with his humans. He’ll bark briefly when they leave but isn’t destructive and can usually be found flopped under the dining room table napping if he doesn’t hear the humans return. He’s active and playful but just hangs out within three feet of the closest person during down times. Having another doggy companion or two in his forever home would probably be good for company if Rucca was facing long periods alone during the day.
A line from the 1980’s band Sublime talked about “waiting for my Rucca” meaning waiting for one’s true love. If you adopt MAESSR’s Rucca, you will have your wish fulfilled in finding your Springer true love. Woof!
