A family obtained Royal as a pup from a farm in Pennsylvania. When he started having issues with his skin about 1 1/2 years ago, they ran allergy testing and the owner said Royal is allergic to many things. His vet records also showed low thyroid levels that were not being treated. 

This handsome fellow is very loving and affectionate.  He lived with adults but has been around kids as young as 5-6.  Royal, however, may jump up on new people who come into the house.  He is housetrained and was crated at night, but now sleeps on a dog bed beside his foster parents…sometimes he will sneak into bed with them (that is where he really wants to be).

He will steal napkins and paper towels and eat them. He likes ice cubes as snacks.  Royal knows “sit” and “stay.”  He walks nicely on a leash and rides well in the car.

Royal lived on 3 acres of wooded land.  He would run around the property and stay on the property with no fence.  He DOES NOT like gunshots.  Gunfire scares him and he will run.  He barks at vehicles coming into the driveway.

Previous owner said if Royal was in his crate and the owner attempted to reprimand him while he was in there cornered, he might growl.

When Royal came into foster care, the skin on his entire body was a mess with yeast and infection.  His foster mom immediately started him on medicated baths every other day.  He went to the vet and was started on thyroid supplement because his thyroid levels were so low.  His skin is clearing up very nicely.  He is not on anything for his allergies. His foster mom and the vet believe the difference in the skin is the thyroid supplement.  When thyroid levels are low, many parts of the body do not function like they should.

This boy is so sweet and just wants to be with his people and be loved.  The family that gets MAESSR’s new boy will be extremely thrilled with him.
