Original: “Rose is becoming accustomed to the joys of rawhides, dog biscuits, and playing in the yard with the other dogs.”
Rose and her son Bo 10 were living outdoors on an acreage with no fencing in Tennessee . Their owners had fallen on hard times and could not afford to keep them, contacting MAESSR for help in re-homing them. Now, with MAESSR’s help, both Springers are living in cozy foster homes.
In the short time Rose has been in her foster home, she has gradually settled in and is learning the traits of a playful Springer Spaniel. She has found her voice and her ability to play by following the lead of the resident Springers. Rose is becoming accustomed to the joys of rawhides, dog biscuits, and playing in the yard with the other dogs. She is oblivious to the existence of the resident cats and while she has not been introduced to small children in her foster home, her foster mother is confident that she would be thrilled to have some small human playmates.
Not having gotten much affection in her past, now Rose can’t seem to get enough. She is incredibly affectionate and is a literal shadow for her foster mom. If she gets a high value treat, Rose will ignore her person for a while, concentrating on the treat; however, without a “pacifier” she is all focused on her person. Her foster mom is working with her to address this issue.
Rose rode well on the hour long trip to her foster mother’s home; however, she was incredibly determined to ride in the front so a crate for traveling would probably be best. She has been kept in a crate when no one is home and although she spent a good deal of her life outside, she has quickly proven to be a pro at being housetrained even going to the door to signal her need to go out. Her crate seems to be a safe place for her and she typically chooses to sleep in it at night as opposed to sleeping in the bedroom with the resident dogs.
Incredibly receptive to visitors, Rose obviously enjoys any attention her little heart can get. She has also endeared herself to her foster mom by not chewing on anything inappropriate in her foster home! Good girl! Rose’s all-around trustworthiness is leading her foster mom to think that she should have the run of the house soon.
Rose is fine on a leash; however, with regard to commands she has obviously had little experience so her new owners will have to work with her on obedience training. She has not been interested in playing fetch so far; however, with time she should start to get the hang of it and feel more comfortable in playing with her people.
Watch for more news about Rose as she becomes more comfortable in her new surroundings and gains experience being an inside dog.
