Original: Rose and her daughter Tulip were surrendered by their owner to a high kill shelter in Pennsylvania. Another all-breed rescue pulled them and then, MAESSR stepped in to give these ladies a new chance at life.
Rose is a very pretty 50-pound girl who just loves people. She is a real Velcro Springer who can’t get enough attention. When she came into foster care, she didn’t seem to know any commands but has quickly learned sit and down. She walks alright on leash until she sees a bird or another critter. Generally good in the house, Rose is an appropriate barker, is not a chewer, doesn’t beg, hasn’t counter surfed, but shows a little interest in the trash. Rose does, very gently, jump up on her people for greeting.
In the yard. Rose has not jumped the fence but has stuck her head through all the little holes under the fence dug by critters. She has not been seen digging, though. Rose gets incredibly excited when she catches scent or sees a bird or wild animal and runs around snorting. Her foster mom would not trust her to come when she is working the scent, so a good, fenced yard will be needed for her safety in her forever home. Rose’s favorite play activity seems to be running and smelling. She will run after a ball, but once she gets to it, she doesn’t pick it up. She shows no interest in any toys, either.
Rose seems completely comfortable with all the routine activity of a home, with the exception of loud appliances like the vacuum and hair dryer. She had a few housebreaking accidents in her first few days; however, females in season often do a little marking type of behavior and this may be what occurred. Rose is taken outside frequently and has no accidents at night. She sleeps on a dog bed beside her foster mom and is tethered so she doesn’t roam the house at night. When no one is home, Rose is crated, and she voices her displeasure.
Rose has had a few squabbles with the female Springer in her foster home. The resident female plays roughly which Rose does not like. Rose does not want this female near her food bowl and at times gets quite grumpy with her. This behavior could be due to her being in season. Rose gets along well with the resident male Springer but probably wouldn’t want him near her at mealtime as well. Rose seems to be more likely to grumble during times when the other dogs are all very excited like when someone comes home or the doorbell rings.
Rose is an incredibly sweet girl who would like nothing more than to be doing things with the family. She loves to get the resident kids up in the morning, especially climbing up into bed to snuggle and give kisses. She likes driving the kids to school and rides well in the car. She was recently groomed and one would have thought she was a regular lady walking into the salon for her weekly beauty treatment. She has no problem with having any part of her touched or her ears cleaned.
Rose has lick granulomas on her front and back legs caused by excessive licking possibly due to boredom or uncertainty over her recent unstable living conditions. Her foster family is using an antibiotic cream and wrapping the legs to keep her from licking. She is also taking cranberry capsules to eliminate the red staining the licking caused.
Rose is waiting for her spay appointment and then she will be ready to start her new life. She will most likely do best as an only pet in a home with a nice, fenced yard. If your life needs a companion, Rose could be your girl.
