Update 1/14/04:
Rose has found a forever home!
Update 1/8/04:
Rose went back to the vet tonight for a checkup to see how the yeast is doing. She still has some yeast, so the vet decided to keep her on the medicine for another two weeks. She is healing well and the hair is starting to grow back on her stomach. Rose will be spayed on the 13th. Hopefully after this course of medication, she will be available for adoption.
Rose continues to be the sweetest little girl. She loves everyone and wants to be with you constantly. She is accepting the crate a little better, but not much. Rose also continues to amaze us with her “catlike” climbing and jumping abilities. She is learning that she should not get on some furniture…but she is so cute when she does it…it is hard to be mad at her.
Original:
A “springer elf” contacted MAESSR the week of Christmas asking for help with a 5 year old springer This “elf” had been in her vet’s office when a man came in and wanted the vet to put his 5 year old springer to sleep. The reason he gave was that she was not house trained and that it was getting cold outside. The vet refused to put down a healthy springer for that reason. The “elf” offered to take Rose and turned her over to MAESSR. Several of our wonderful volunteers took time out of their busy holiday schedules and transported her to her foster home.
Rose came into foster care with one of the worst yeast infections the foster mom had ever seen. The itchy yeast infection was in her ears, between her toes, on her lips, and covered her stomach. The hair is missing on her stomach from repeated scratching over an extended time frame. The yeast infection is being treated and is quickly responding to the medications. Rose will not be spayed until the yeast infection is completely healed. We did not feel that she needed any additional stress at this time.
Rose weighs 27 pounds. She also has a tail. She could possibly be a springer mix, but she looks exactly like a springer and has a wonderful springer temperament. The only reason we think she could be a mix is her petite size.
Rose gets along well with cats, children of all ages, and other dogs. Her favorite activity is going for a ride. She will jump in the car for a ride every time the door is opened. Rose knows several commands (sit, down, roll over) and is very well behaved…however she does have a sense of humor…one day the foster mom was in the kitchen and Rose jumped up on the table and started looking around!! Rose will get on the sofa and chairs and loves to sit in your lap for a cuddle. It is the opinion of the foster mom that Rose was/has been an outside dog for most (if not all) of her life. She has quickly picked up the going outside to go “potty” routine. She will go to the door and whine to go out. Rose has not had any accidents in the foster home. She sleeps on a dog bed beside the foster parents bed at night (she loves to come up on the bed when invited). Rose does not like to be crated. The foster parents have been crating her to try to get her used to it and she is getting a little better.
This girl is soooo special that the foster home spent a week trying to decide if they should adopt her. They finally decided that Rose would do better in a home where there were not so many other dogs (so she could get more attention).
Are you that special family that Rose has been waiting for?
