Update 11/24/2013: “From the beginning Rosco seemed a low-key boy, but he gave no indication that he was harboring terminal illness.”
From the beginning Rosco seemed a low-key boy, but he gave no indication that he was harboring terminal illness. His obvious, short-term health issues had been treated, and, at the appropriate time, he was brought up-to-date on vaccinations. He seemed to be moving steadily toward becoming “available” when he was altered but went downhill very rapidly thereafter. Further diagnostics confirmed an advanced cancer which had given no warning.
With no hope for a remission, this sweet and loving boy departed his foster family to the Rainbow Bridge. Godspeed, sweet Rosco. Wishing we could have done more for you…………..
Original: “Rosco typically just lies on his bed and doesn’t get into any mischief while home alone. What a good boy!”
When his owner in Virginia could no longer afford to care for Rosco, he was surrendered to a shelter. Lucky for him, it didn’t take long for Rosco to become a MAESSR boy!
Rosco quickly become part of his foster family. This good boy is housetrained and typically gives a few barks to let his family know that he needs to go out. He does not do well in the crate, but he does quite well when left to roam freely when his family is out. Rosco typically just lies on his bed and doesn’t get into any mischief while home alone. What a good boy! At night, he sleeps on his own bed.
Although he has great house manners, Rosco can get a bit messy when eating! He hasn’t shown much interest in counter-surfing and has only gotten into the trash on one occasion. He is not allowed on the furniture and hasn’t really shown any interest in doing so. He enjoys bones and has not chewed on anything inappropriate.
Rosco understands the basic commands “sit” and “stay.” He wears a harness while on walks because he tends to pull. With some training, his foster family is certain that he could learn to walk appropriately with a regular collar. He does well when other dogs approach on walks as long as they aren’t aggressive; he gets a bit apprehensive if the other dog displays aggression. Rosco rides in the car extremely well and usually just curls up in the back seat for a nap during the ride.
Most toys are met with indifference by Rosco, although he occasionally drags around his Kermit the Frog. Currently he is the only dog in his foster home and he has not been exposed to cats during his stay. He shows no resource guarding of food, bones, or toys. Rosco is calm inside the house, but he livens up a bit when going out for walks. He will be visiting the groomer soon, at which time it will be revealed if Rosco enjoys going to the spa.
Rosco’s foster family believes that he would do well in a somewhat quiet environment given that he is a low-key guy. He’s so content to just lounge on his bed when in the house. He’s extremely sweet and definitely loves being around his people, so, a home where someone is home a lot would be a great fit for him.
As soon as Rosco has a few minor health issues resolved, he’ll be ready for adoption. Don’t miss the opportunity to welcome this sweet, well-behaved boy into your family.
