When Rosalee was found as a stray in Virginia, her rescuers saw that she had been shot. She had a wound across the back of her neck. Whether her injuries were intentional or accidental is unknown. The shelter staff took her to the vet who did surgery to remove the bullets. The shelter staff then contacted MAESSR to see if we could help. Of course we immediately agreed! When the MAESSR volunteer went to the shelter to meet Rosalee, the first thing she noticed was that she was actually a Welsh Springer. That did not matter; she still needed MAESSR’s help. Although she was extremely shy when initially meeting the volunteer, her spaniel desire to be close to people overrode her shyness. It was just a couple of minutes before she was in the volunteer’s lap!
Rosalee has done well in her foster home. At times she is overwhelmed by the other dogs and noises, but she is steadily gaining confidence. Her foster mom is sure that she had never been in a house before, but she is quickly learning to love sleeping in her foster parents’ bed and being warm and comfortable.
When Rosalee went to the vet for a checkup and to get her shots, she did very well with everyone. And, good news: her wound is healing well. The vet recommended that she put on at least five pounds since she is extremely skinny.
Look for more info coming on Rosalee as she continues to recover and expand her horizons!
