Original: “Handsome is as handsome does, and this fellow knows what ‘no’ means, sits on command and has learned to come when called (‘Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?’). “
A Good Samaritan driving on the same West Virginia road each day spotted young Romeo living outside tied to a box. The owner agreed to release him and now this lover is in a comfy MAESSR foster home learning what the good life is all about.
Romeo loves to run and play in the yard with the two resident dogs in his foster home, and while the indoor cat catches his eye, he shows no overt interest in the feline resident. This love eats in the kitchen and does not seem food aggressive.
Definitely a “smartie,” Romeo is doing great on housetraining; he knows to go to the door when he needs to go out and does well in a crate when his foster mom is not home, settling down quickly after a couple of protest barks. When he is free in the house, he is learning not to counter-surf or trash dive and has not chewed inappropriately.
Handsome is as handsome does, and this fellow knows what “no” means, sits on command and has learned to come when called (“Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?”). He does pull on the leash but settles down quickly and is learning commands well and easily. To reinforce this education, note that MAESSR only places puppies- even 1 year old ones– in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption.
Romeo is beginning to be calm when medicine is put in his ears and knows that the vet and those who groom him are his friends.
This true lover is very sweet dog who loves to sit beside his mom and put his head on her lap. He likes to get hugs and kisses. Romeo will do well in a home with someone who loves him and makes him a part of the family. He likes his humans and responds to positive attention. What a great end to summer for a lucky family to be able to give MAESSR’s new fellow a forever home!
