Romeo, AKA Sweet Baby Ray, is one adorable guy. But, don’t be fooled! He is more than just a pretty face. Little Ray, as he is affectionately known in his foster home, is very, very smart. When he arrived, he knew nothing. Within less than 24 hours, he was used to wearing a collar, walking on a leash and crate trained. He will even go into his crate on his own for a snooze! A little bit of puppy chewing has been going on, so his bed has been removed from the crate. If desirable objects are removed, or his attention is redirected to chew toys, or other more appropriate items, he does fine. “Mr. Smarty Pants” has quickly grasped the concept of housebreaking too, and, his proud foster mom can say that he is 99% housebroken, even at the young age of 14 weeks!
Little Ray knows “sit,” comes when called, and understands “no.” He also fetches a ball. He is working on “down” and “stay” and should have that conquered shortly. Little Ray is also well socialized and self confident for one so young. He has bonded with his springer foster brother who has been happy to show him how things are done, and the two thoroughly enjoy each other. Little Ray loves to swim and has been doing so in the large water bowl in the kitchen. He has just gotten a large wading pool and will be doing laps in no time! He generally has spurts of puppiness but is also pretty laid back.
Little Ray initially visited the vet for a brief bout of an intestinal ailment which cleared up after a bland diet. His food was changed to a high-quality puppy food, but the problem returned. X-rays were clear and showed no obstruction. He was diagnosed with acute gastro enteritis and went back on a bland diet. Currently he is on chicken and rice and a prescription diet. This hopefully should resolve the problem and he will eventually be back on regular puppy food. He is otherwise active and in fine spirits!
His foster mom warns that this puppy is addictive. It’s impossible to stop hugging and smooching him up! He came into MAESSR’s care only because his original family was moving and could not take him along. For the family who wants a truly great puppy, who will someday grow up to be a really terrific dog, this freckle faced little charmer is the one! Start the love affair now!
